On Wednesday, the average cost for a gallon of regular gasoline in the country increased slightly to$ 3.02, bucking the downward trend of gas prices. It was less than a one-cent increase from Monday’s cost of$ 3.011.

Despite the increase, AAA estimates that the typical cost for a gallon of regular gasoline is still lower than it was a week ago, when it was$ 3.033.

Oil prices have steadily decreased since the summer, and they are significantly less expensive than they did earlier this year. According to the Energy Information Administration, the recent price for a gallon of regular gasoline is still the least expensive since May 2021, when the average price was$ 2.985 per gallon. In June 2021, oil prices skyrocketed, becoming a financial problem for everyone in America. The average of regular gas climbed to over$ 3 per gallon and, briefly, to over$ 4 per gallon.

TRUMP CABINET PICKS: WHO’S BEEN TAPPED TO SERVE IN THE PRESIDENT-ELEC T’S ADMINISTRATION

For most of President Joe Biden’s name, gas costs reached record highs. The cost of fuel began to decline later in the year after hitting the highest national average rate in the country’s past in 2022. In 2023, costs resurrected before reaching their highest point in April 2024. In May 2024, oil prices all but started to drop. However, gasoline prices continue to shift nationwide. Hawaii has the most expensive gas prices at$ 4.559 per gallon. However, Oklahoma has the least expensive gas at$ 2.517 per quart.

However, even with this year’s significant increases in fuel costs, the price remains higher now than when President-elect Donald Trump was in business between January 2017 and January 2021. It remains to be seen how Trump’s administration may impact fuel prices now that he is scheduled to take office on January 20, 2025.
