Petrol prices increased somewhat on Monday, leading to a higher average price for a gallon of regular gas than it did a week prior.
Coming at a cost of$ 3.024 per gallon, according to AAA. Monday’s rate was ever-so-slightly more expensive than last year, when the average cost for a quart of regular gasoline was$ 3.018. Five days ago, fuel costs had dropped to$ 3.011 per litre before steadily rising.
Since May, the price of a gallon of regular gasoline has gradually decreased, and it is significantly less expensive than next winter and spring. The Energy Information Administration reports that gas prices have been at the lowest levels since May 2021, when the typical cost for a quart of regular gasoline was$ 2.985. In June 2021, the price of oil began to rise. Costs soared, eventually reaching record-high averages of over$ 4 per gallon.
After hitting the highest national typical rate in the country’s past in 2022, prices began to decrease. Oil prices reached their highest point in April 2024 before steadily declining in May 2024.
Meanwhile, gas prices continue to fluctuate throughout the country, with average prices in some states near$ 2.50 per gallon, whereas in others, the cost of gas is over$ 4.50 per gallon. Oklahoma has the cheapest gas prices in the country, at$ 2.504 per gallon. On Monday, Hawaii received the highest average cost for a gallon of gasoline, at$ 4. 538.
During President Joe Biden’s most recent term, the price of gasoline was a contentious social issue. Biden assured the country that oil prices would drop after breaking record-setting federal records. Years afterwards, he seems to have suddenly delivered on that claim. However, despite this year’s significant increases in fuel prices, fuel costs remain higher now than when President-elect Donald Trump was in office between January 2017 and January 2021.
