President-elect Donald Trump may shoot a moratorium on TikTok if its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, doesn’t offer the popular game, which is a strong plan turnaround from his first term.
In January, TikTok will no longer be allowed to offer and get a customer for ByteDance. When TikTok petitioned the Supreme Court to block the ban, Trump said he might take action to safeguard its potential when he sworn in as president next quarter.  ,
Trump said on Monday,” You know, I have a warm spot in my heart for TikTok because I won youth by 34 points, and there are people who claim TikTok has something to do with it.”
Trump did not win the youth vote by 34 positions, as he said. He lost the statewide ballot for vice president Kamala Harris by 11 items.
During Trump’s first management, he supported a moratorium on the game and sought to clamp down on TikTok via administrative activity. Four years later, he seems opened to keeping the game about.
Trump made a note in March that he had security concerns about the game. He even recognized that the application directly threatens Meta, and that outlawing TikTok would benefit the rivalry Trump has been critical of.
” Without TikTok, you can make Social bigger, and I consider Facebook to be an enemy of the people”, Trump told CNBC.
Trump’s strategy joined TikTok in June, and over the course of the political campaign, the platform has gained millions of users.
Before the looming restrictions, Trump met with TikTok CEO Shou Chew this year. Since Trump’s election, the nephew has been attempting to contact him, according to CNN.
TikTok has petitioned for its situation to be on American shelves, but most of its pertains have been rejected. The business requested on Monday that the Supreme Court temporarily halt its ban, and the firm lodged an emergency software. The potential restrictions, according to TikTok, goes against its First Amendment right to free speech.
The social media system’s lawyers wrote in a letter to the court that” the extraordinary effort to single out applicants and bar them from operating one of the most significant speech systems in this country presents grave legal issues that this court probably won’t allow stand.”
Earlier this year, Congress passed the restrictions with republican support. After decades of some politicians questioning whether ByteDance is a national security problem due to its ties to the Chinese Communist Party, President Joe Biden signed it into law in April. ByteDance has stated on numerous occasions that it is hesitant to buy the app.  ,
Trump’s exact strategy for stepping in and halting the moratorium is still undetermined. The restrictions is set to take place on Jan. 19,  , the day before he becomes president.

He had the option of asking Congress to override the law, which was largely passed in both chambers. However, two of Trump’s Cabinet picks, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL ) and Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL ), were vocal advocates of banning TikTok due to its perceived security concerns and voted in favor of its ban.
As senator, Trump may also choose not to enforce the ban. In theory, under Trump, the Justice Department had choose not to impose the law and, in principle, reassure businesses like Apple that they wouldn’t face legal repercussions for maintaining the app in their online stores.
