Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the nominee for secretary of health and human services, pledged to many Republican senators this week to support and reinstate pro-life policies if he is confirmed.
Sen. Josh Hawley says Kennedy intends to encourage the return of common Trump-era privileges like a ban on taxpayer-funded pregnancies at home and abroad and a gag law mandating that organizations receiving Title X funding keep their health care separate from their pregnancy activities. Additionally, according to rumors, Kennedy also promised that the consciousness privileges that the Biden presidency worked extra would be reinstated.  ,
The most significant promise that Kennedy made to Hawley is that “every one of his HHS representatives would be proliferate” is perhaps the most important. As Students for Life of America President Kristan Hawkins noted in the pages of The Federalist earlier this month, “appointing pro-life personnel]to HHS] is crucial” to Trump’s “up to the says” plan because it is the only way to ensure” Trump’s target of less federal authorities engagement with contraception” isn’t stonewalled by pro-abortion officials.
When Trump nominated Kennedy to mind the national health authority, some pro-life organizations signaled fear. As a 2024 presidential candidate, Kennedy expressed support for pregnancy through all nine months of pregnancy.
” Unfortunately, I don’t believe state to have control over person’s bodies”, Kennedy said. ” I think we need to keep it to the girl, her priest, and to, you know, her religious officials or mentor or doctor, whatever, to render those decisions”.
After learning that women carefully “abort healthy, sustainable late-term fetuses”, Kennedy after walked up his position to endorsing abortion until” the baby is practical outside the womb”, around 22 weeks gestation.
Republicans are correct to be skeptical of how Kennedy’s personal views on baby-killing might conflict with his potential jobs as health secretary, especially given that those views are still in conflict with Americans ‘ andnbsp, opposition to killing children beyond 15 days. After all, Kennedy’s department is the major national authority on abortion, according to Kennedy’s confirmation of leadership.
But if Trump’s case can be used to teach Americans anything, it’s that administration officials ‘ personal opinions about contraception don’t necessarily have to do so with the fight to protect life; only their actions do.
Kennedy must follow his guns in reimplementing the Mexico City policy ( a ban on funneling millions of dollars of American taxpayers ‘ money to organizations that perform or encourage abortions ) and every other promise he made in his rounds on Capitol Hill in order to satisfy the GOP’s confidence that he will be confirmed. RFK Jr. may step in to reduce the mostly deregulated distribution of unsafe abortion pills if he is smart and really believes Americans may be freed from the clutches of Big Pharma, as he has so frequently stated in recent months.
Trump’s first-term overhaul of HHS abortion policy was wildly successful, earning him the title of the “most pro-life president”. In order for the incoming president to fulfill his promised to protect life, it depends on his second-term success in terms of health care policy.
