The average price of regular gas in the country increased once more, marking the second straight increase.
The price of oil stood at$ 3.05 per gallon on Friday, according to AAA. This was an increase of more than two percent over the previous year. The price of a gallon of regular gasoline had dropped by$ 3.011 earlier this month.
Despite the recent increases, fuel prices had been trending downward for months. The cost of gas is the lowest in the country since May 2021, when the average price was$ 2.985 per gallon, according to the Energy Information Administration. In June 2021, prices gradually increased, reaching record-high averages of over$ 4 per gallon. Costs started to decrease after 2022, setting the nation’s highest regional average price. Petrol prices increased once more in 2023, reaching a peak in April 2024, before gradually falling continuously in May.
Oil prices have been a contentious social issue for the majority of President Joe Biden’s term in office. Biden assured the country that gas prices would drop after reaching report federal rates. Years afterwards, near the end of his term, that promise has suddenly come to fruition. However, despite this year’s significant increases in fuel prices, fuel costs remain higher now than when President-elect Donald Trump was in office between January 2017 and January 2021.
Meanwhile, gas prices continue to fluctuate throughout the country, with average prices in some states near$ 2.50 per gallon and over$ 4.50 in others. Hawaii has the highest average cost for a gallon of gasoline, at$ 4. 539. Oklahoma has the cheapest gas prices in the country, at$ 2.581 per gallon.
