Long Island , prolific criminal suspect , Rex Heuermann , issued his most angry denial in court on Tuesday after prosecution charged him with a sixth death in the long, personal story of the , Gilgo Beach , deaths.
During a hearing at Suffolk County Criminal Court, the massive think raised his voice and pleaded his ignorance once more, even as the claims against him grew worse. He was cuffed from behind and dressed in a dark suit.
” Your Honor, I am certainly guilty of any of these fees”, Heuermann blurted out, shaking his head, as he was arraigned on the new prosecution.
It was the most he has always addressed in judge.
But prosecution and the survivors ‘ people were unmoved by his rejection as more facts emerged about victim , Valerie Mack, who was killed, dismembered and mutilated some time , between Sept. 1 and Nov. 19, 2000, according to a replacing indictment unsealed Tuesday.
Mack, 24, had been working as an escort in , Philadelphia , and was last seen by her home that time in , New Jersey. A bird’s dog discovered Mack’s mutilated figure in a wooded area of , Manorville,  , Long Island, on , Nov. 19, 2000.
According to court documents, her remains were encased in a dark plastic case that had been duct tape wrapped around it. According to the paperwork, one of her limbs had been cut off, and both of her fingers had been severed from her physique.
The rest of Mack’s remains were found more than a decade after, in , April 2011, along , Ocean Parkway , near , Gilgo Beach, officials said.
A woman’s hair found on Mack’s keeps was linked through DNA to Heuermann’s wife and daughter, indicating that the victim’s body was dismembered in the engineer ‘s , Massapequa Park,  , Nassau County, house, prosecutors allege.
In 2010 and 2011, the body of 11 people were found on or near , Gilgo Beach.
Heuermann, 61, is charged with killing six different people whose remains were found on , Long Island. He has entered a not-guilty plea.
” The life of these people matter. We, as authorities, know that. No one understands that more than the families” , , Suffolk County , District Attorney , Ray Tierney , said at a news conference with Mack’s parents and other victims ‘ relatives.
Mack’s families said little after the hearing. Alternatively, they received well-wishes and plants from the kids of other subjects.
” We are here now because we wish to support the community members of prey Valerie Mack”, said , Gloria Allred, an attorney representing victims ‘ people. We want her family to know that they are not at ease with their grief.
Allred claimed that she had hoped Heuermann would release a not-guilty appeal.
” Under the law, he is presumed honest, unless and until he is found guilty beyond a fair question in a court of law”, Allred said. ” So he can claim it until he’s orange in the face, but what really matters is what the facts shows,” he said.
Among the information, according to prosecutors, are erotic pictures consistent with wounds Mack suffered. The pictures involved using wire to tie up women and cutting a woman’s breasts.
Heuermann’s lawyer , Michael Brown , said he was not surprised by his lawyer’s voice.
” I know he’s really frustrated”, Brown said after the reading. He has stated his innocence from the beginning in his accusations of murder. From day one, he wanted his time in court. Although I expected him to suggest things at a lower level, he naturally wanted to address the court. So he did”.
Heuermann was initially charged in , July 2023 , with the deaths of , Melissa Barthelemy,  , Megan Waterman , and , Amber Costello. In January, Heuermann was charged with the fatality of , Maureen Brainard-Barnes.
He was eventually charged with two more murders — the 2003 dying of , Jessica Taylor, and the 1993 death of , Sandra Costilla.
Heuermann has pleaded not guilty to the deaths, which span three centuries. He is currently being held without parole.
Cops said it was a , Long Island , prostitute — and pie crust DNA— that steered authorities toward Heuermann, a husband and father who had been living peacefully in , Massapequa Park , and commuting to , Manhattan, where he worked as an engineer.
The prostitute described the perpetrator’s vehicle to regulators, giving them information about a natural Chevrolet Avalanche during a spring 2022 conference with researchers.
Cops even retrieved DNA from a pie shell found in a , Manhattan , garbage can near Heuermann’s work company and matched it with a hair found on Waterman’s system.
Heuermann has been in prison since his incarceration in , July 2023.
