Despite being receiving therapy for an unnamed form of cancer, King Charles has been named the second-hardest running king of 2024. This year the 76-year-old king completed 186 imperial activities, coming next to his girlfriend, Princess Anne, who topped the list with 217 activities.
The 74-year-old Princess Royal frequently outstrips other members of the royal family in terms of engagements, according to the study conducted by Reset Research and based on submissions in the Court Circular.
King Charles’s cancer diagnosis was formally disclosed in February, following his health care for an enlarged prostate. Since then, he has been receiving regular solutions, with a short pause during his brief stopover in Australia and Samoa in October.
Despite his health problems, the King’s devotion to royal responsibilities has remained solid, retaining his second-place rating for the year. Resources at Buckingham Palace confirmed that his treatment is “moving in a good direction” and may persist into the new year.
In his last public appearance before Christmas, the King, in his quality laughter, joked that he was” also alive”, while advisers insisted there had been no shift to his problem.
The third-hardest working royal was the Duke of Gloucester, who had the largest increase in royal engagements this year, rising from 113 to 126. He was followed by the King’s youngest brother, the Duke of Edinburgh, and his wife Sophie, who completed 126 and 124 engagements, respectively.
The Queen, who has continued to fulfil her duties while supporting her husband, ranked sixth with 95 engagements. Since King Charles’s cancer diagnosis in May, the Queen has maintained a full schedule of public duties, supporting the monarch’s return to work after his diagnosis. This included arranging to see the Queen on a busy tour of Australia and Samoa, participate in the D-Day celebrations in France, and pay a state visit to the Japanese Emperor, with the Queen.
According to a palace source, the King wanted to demonstrate how it was possible to live a full life while receiving cancer, not just afterward, according to The Telegraph.
Meanwhile, the Prince and Princess of Wales experienced a significant decrease in engagements. The Princess, 42, who completed a course of preventative chemotherapy starting in late February, took a break from public duties until September. Since then, she has gradually resumed her regular engagements.
In an emotional video, the Princess shared that the nine-month chemotherapy period had been “incredibly tough” for the family. The Prince of Wales also reduced his workload, undertaking 71 engagements this year, down 35.5 per cent from the previous year. This decrease is reflected in his efforts to provide for his wife and their three children.
The Princess praised her husband’s assistance throughout this trying time, citing the significance of” simply loving and being loved” as she reflected on. The Prince continued with his royal duties, breaking from his previous schedule, while the Princess had only completed 11 public appearances since returning.
Last year, the Princess Royal was also ranked at the top with 214 engagements, while King Charles undertook 181.
