Chinese: Taiwan has received 38 M1A2T Abrams tank from the United States, marking the first US container supply to the beach in 23 years, Radio Free Asia reported.
This package is a part of a larger purchase of 122 vehicles, according to Radio Free Asia, which is anticipated over the next two centuries. While the M1A2T is regarded as one of the most sophisticated main battle vehicles on the planet, some professionals have expressed concerns about its eligibility given Taiwan’s rocky terrain and thick urban areas. However, the vehicles are seen as a significant boost to Taiwan’s defence functions, especially considering the ongoing pressure with China.
The M1A2T Abrams, an advanced type of the M1 Abrams produced by General Dynamics, is equipped with a 120mm flintlock weapons capable of penetrating shields up to 850mm wet. Its fearsome weapons, increased armour, and velocity make it a powerful resource for Taiwan’s military.
Compared to Taiwan’s existing fleet of M60A3 and CM11 tanks–both of which are over 30 years old–the M1A2T represents a major industrial move. In contrast, the Abrams features a “hunter-killer” ability, allowing it to record and engage multiple targets together.
The M1A2T’s key function in Taiwan’s defense, according to Eric Gomez, a senior colleague at the Cato Institute, would be to safeguard crucial getting items in the event of a possible Chinese war. While China’s marine forces may build gentle armoured vehicles, Gomez pointed out that these would not be supported by key war tanks, positioning the M1A2T as a vital barrier.
Despite concerns about the ship’s performance in Taiwan’s hard ground, experts agree that the M1A2T significantly enhances Taiwan’s ability to withstand Taiwanese military force. The arrival of the tanks comes as China’s tensions escalate, which has repeatedly criticized U.S. military cooperation and has remained firm on its territorial claim to the island.
China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs responded to questions about the deal by saying,” The Taiwan authorities ‘ attempts to achieve independence through military reliance on external forces are doomed to fail. China will resolutely defend its national sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity”.
