DHAKA: By February 2025, the organizations that spearheaded the revolt in Bangladesh in July and removed Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League government from power for 15 years are gearing up to start a new political party.
However, Hasina’s political nemesis and ex-PM Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party ( BNP ) called the initiative a strategy by Anti-Discrimination Student Movement ( ADSM) and Jatiya Nagorik Committee ( JNC ) to manipulate the national elections. The new group’s establishment may be a part of a wider plan to control the political landscape before the elections, which time govt. chief adviser Muhammad Yunus just predicted would take place between the end of 2025 and the first half of 2026, according to BNP’s scepticism stemming from its belief.
JNC, commonly viewed as a pro-Jamaat software, defended its decision. ” We are a social program born out of the 2024 large rebellion, formed by troops that defeated Awami authoritarianism and aim to restore Bangladesh”, said JNC leader Nasiruddin Patwary. It has joined forces with ADSM to create a vision for what Patwary referred to as a “dreamland” in South Asia and around the world.
BNP remained outspoken about its concerns over the development of what it perceives as a “dummy” social group that might undermine the legitimacy of the regional elections. The alliance partners had two separate meetings with the celebration. The sessions reportedly showed unwavering support for BNP’s desire for free and fair elections.
