After five nights of increases next year, the average rate for a gallon of regular gasoline has remained constant.
The typical price for a gallon of regular gasoline on Monday, according to AAA, is$ 3.042. This price is higher than the previous week’s$ 3.024 per gallon price. Before last year’s increases, the cost had fallen to$ 3.011 earlier this month.
Despite the recent increases, fuel costs in the country had been falling for months. Now, the national cost of gasoline is the lowest since May 2021, when the average amount was$ 2.985 per gallon, according to the Energy Information Administration. In June 2021, prices rose, eventually reaching record-high averages of over$ 4 per gallon. Oil prices started to decline after 2022, the highest national average rate in the country’s record, was set at 2022. Petrol prices increased once more in 2023, reaching a peak in April 2024, before gradually falling in May.
President Joe Biden has spent the majority of his presidency on a contentious social issue regarding fuel costs. Biden assured the country that gas prices would drop after reaching report federal rates. Years after, near the end of his term, that promise has suddenly come to fruition. However, despite this year’s significant increases in fuel prices, fuel costs remain higher now than when President-elect Donald Trump was in office between January 2017 and January 2021.
Typical oil prices continue to fluctuate throughout the nation. Prices range from under$ 2.55 to over$ 4.50 per gallon. Hawaii has the highest average rate for a gallon of gasoline, at$ 4.53. Oklahoma has the cheapest gas prices in the country, at$ 2.549 per gallon.
