A U. S. ship shot down a U. S. F/A-18 Super Hornet fighter aircraft in a friendly hearth incident over the Red Sea on Dec. 22.
The USS Gettysburg ( CG 64 ), a guided missile cruiser from the USS Harry S. Truman Carrier Strike Group ( CSG), mistakenly identified the Super Hornet fighter jet as an enemy target in the early morning hours of the morning.
The U.S. fighter plane was struck by a missile cruiser, but its two planes were safely ejected from the Red Sea. The pilots were able to be recovered by save crews.
In a press statement shared with FreeBase News, the U. S. Central Command ( CENTCOM) said one of the two pilots sustained minor injuries. According to CENTCOM, the pleasant fire occurrence is currently being thoroughly investigated.
The incident comes as U.S. forces have increased their occurrence in the Red Sea over the past few years by attacking ships passing through the effectively and economically important waterway. Houthi forces in Yemen also have increased their presence there. The Houthis have expressed their support for the Arab reason and have pledged to attack both commercial ships and Israel as long as Israeli troops remain engaged in combat in the Gaza Strip.
The U. S. led effort to stop these Houthi problems, known as Operation Prosperity Guardian, has seen the U. S. Navy period carrier battle groups in and out of the area. The USS Theodore Roosevelt CSG, the USS Abraham Lincoln CSG, and now the USS Truman CSG, were the first ships to loop through the area.
Yemen’s Houthi targets have regular U.S. attacks, but the rebel group has continued its style of problems for more than a year.
