A chilling fresh video, allegedly showing Julian Zapeta-Calil, the man accused of setting a girl on fire aboard a train in New York City, ranting indolently about liquor and locals, has surfaced digitally.
In the clip, the person can be heard talking about “drinking ale” and saying,” I don’t give a s**t about people”. While much of the film is unreadable, one person noted,” At the very start, he says ‘ estas bien a verga loco,’ meaning he is quite, quite high”.
The film, shared by a social media users who claimed it depicts Zapeta-Calil, comes in the aftereffects of the brutal attack. Authorities have not yet confirmed the movie’s sincerity, but the effect online has been timely, with many users calling for severe punishment. One commented,” He sat there and watched her. He’s a full sociopath”. Another added,” It’s terrible that New York does not have the dying penalties”.
What are the facts about the event?
The think
Julian Zapeta-Calil, 33, a Guatemalan expatriate who had formerly been deported in 2018, was arraigned on crime and arson charges on Tuesday. Federal immigration officials confirmed he re-entered the US improperly, though the timeframe remains unclear.
Authorities claim that Zapeta approached the victim on Sunday night at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue train in a calm manner. As she burned to death, he lit her garments up and sprayed the lights with a top.
Zapeta was detained shortly after authorities released surveillance footage. Officers discovered him wearing the same paint-splattered trousers and yellow shoes as they had seen in the video after three high school recognized him and called the authorities. During questioning, Assistant District Attorney Ari Rottenberg said Zapeta identified himself in pictures of the assault but claimed he didn’t know what happened, admitting to ordinary alcohol consumption.
The target
The person has not yet been identified. She was seated at the end of the coach vehicles, according to authorities, when the attack took place. There was no previous contact between the suspect and the target, according to Joseph Gulotta, the transit officer for the NYPD.
Information from a house roommate
Sebastian Zapeta-Calil’s disturbing behavior apparently escalated after using K2, a chemical substance, and drinking heavily. ” He smoked K2, drank, and bugged out”, said his house roommate Raymond Robinson, speaking to The New York Post. When high, Robinson described Zapeta as uneven but usually clear. ” When he wasn’t great, he’d talk like we’re talking standard”.
Robinson recalls that Zapeta had a typical meal at the house the day of the attack and that she was going to make a routine run. Hours later, authorities suspect, he carried out the tragic act, leaving yet his roommate stunned.
The strike
The target, yet to be identified, was sitting quietly on a stationary F train at the Coney Island station around 7:30 amon Sunday. Police say Zapeta approached her without a word, set her clothing on fire, and fanned the flames with a shirt. Video evidence reportedly shows him standing by as she burned to death.
The broader affect
One of the most wicked acts one person could possibly undertake against another human being, according to police inspector Jessica Tisch. Similar ideas were expressed in online responses, with one person asking,” When will the British people demand ramifications from those who funded and allowed the storm?”
This kind of violent train incident continues to garner national attention. Despite a 6 % decrease in overall train offense this month compared to 2023, there have still been more deaths in the program, with nine recorded so far in 2024 as opposed to five during the same time last year.
New York Mayor Eric Adams acknowledged the effect of such situations, saying,” When you have these situations, it overshadows the victory, and it plays on the soul of New Yorkers”. He even made a point about how mental health issues are a big part of the transit system’s high-profile acts.
As New Yorkers wait for more information on the case, Zapeta’s future judge hearing is scheduled for Friday.
