Seven folks, including a 9-year-old son, were injured on Christmas Day in Midtown Manhattan when a car veered onto the street outside Macy’s flagship store in Herald Square, authorities said Wednesday. The event occurred after the 58-year-old vehicle experienced a health condition while driving.
The collision occurred near the intersection of West 34th Street and Sixth Avenue, a neighborhood filled with holiday customers and visitors admiring Macy’s classic screen displays.
The wounded included a 9-year-old son, two girls aged 49, and some older 19, 37, and 41. Three patients, including the son, were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injury. The child sustained a reduce, one 49-year-old girl suffered a knee injury, and a 41-year-old female had a brain injury.
Three more commuters at the scene declined medical interest, and authorities said no serious injuries had been reported.
A damaged car with shattered parts and dents was visible in photos of the fallout, a stark warning of the force of the crash. Officials are looking into the driver’s health condition and the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Macy’s Herald Square, known for its sophisticated holiday decorations, attracts dozens during the festive time, making the event even more disturbing for those in the region.
