Sanjeeb Wazed, son of ousted Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina, has accused the Muhammad Yunus-led time state of “weaponising the court” to carry out a “political monster hunt” against the Awami League management.
His claims, which were detailed in a blog on X, were made shortly after the interim Bangladeshi authorities wrote a political word to New Delhi requesting Hasina’s abduction.
Hasina, 77, has been residing in India since August 5, after fleeing Bangladesh amid huge student-led protests that toppled her 16-year law. Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal ( ICT) has since issued arrest warrants for her and some former government individuals, citing” crimes against humanity and genocide”.
In his blog, Wazed, an IT businessman and former ICT director in Hasina’s state, condemned the ICT approach, describing it as a “farcical test” orchestrated by judges and prosecutors appointed by the appointed Yunus-led regime.
He claimed the judge was part of a broader effort to punish Awami League frontrunners, alleging illegal killings, large incarcerations, and aggressive attacks on gathering activists.
” The kangaroo court and subsequent demand for repatriation come while thousands of leaders and protesters are extrajudicially killed, framed with outrageous fees, and subjected to harsh attacks, including looting, theft, and arson”, Wazed wrote.
India confirmed that it had received the political message, but it had not made any comments. Under the India-Bangladesh abduction treaty, extradition may be denied for infractions of a “political personality”.
Bangladesh’s of facto international minister Touhid Hossain pointed out that Dhaka seeks Hasina’s returning to face criminal proceedings.
Wazed, but, cited the nomination of Tajul Islam as the chief prosecutor for misinformation regarding an alleged Police red notice against Hasina.
Wazed alleged that the prosecutor after retract his speech after being exposed in the media that” this is a desperate attempt to extradite her and keep a farcical test to serve the interests of Dr. Yunus.”
We reiterate our place that every human rights violation between July and August needs to be investigated in a fair and impartial manner, but the Yunus-led government harmed the system, and we express no confidence in the justice system, he added.
However, Yunus, who assumed business on August 8, defended the president’s actions. In a nationwide handle marking 100 days in power, he confirmed programs to find Hasina’s abduction, saying,” We must ensure justice in every killing”. Yunus even claimed that over 1, 500 people had been killed and nearly 20, 000 injured during demonstrations leading to Hasina’s impeachment.
India has expressed growing worries about attacks on immigrants, including Hindus, in neighbouring Bangladesh since the social revolution. During a subsequent visit to its capital, Dhaka, foreign minister Vikram Misri raised these concerns, emphasising the safety and welfare of immigrants.
In response, Hasina has accused the interim state of investigating “genocide” and failing to protect minority communities.
