KYIV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday denounced an “inhumane” assault from Russia, which launched dozens of missiles and uavs on his war-torn government’s power grid on Christmas Day.
The air force reported that Russia had launched Kalibr cruise missiles from the Black Sea shortly after the country woke up at 5.30 am ( 0330 GMT ) to an air raid alarm.
Puntin purposefully chose Christmas to strike. What could be more cruel? More than 70 weapons, including nuclear weapons, and more than a hundred strike robots. The goal is our strength system”, Zelenskyy said.
This was the 13th large-scale attack on Ukraine’s power program this year, the latest in Russia’s plan targeting the electricity grid during autumn.
The air pressure shot along over 50 weapons, Zelenskyy said.
” However, there are some visits. As of now, there are blackouts in some parts”, he said.
Engineers were repairing the system, but local officials reported power outages and Ukrainian DTEK energy, which claimed the attack heavily damaged thermal power plant equipment.
” Christmas day has once again shown that nothing is divine for the attacker state”, said Svitlana Onyshchuk, the mind of the Ivano-Frankivsk area.
She claimed that while” we celebrate one of the greatest spiritual holidays, the beautiful Christmas,” some parts of the area were without electricity.
For the second time in a row, Ukraine is actually celebrating Christmas on December 25.
The state altered the deadline last year to reflect Russian bash culture, starting on January 7, when the majority of Orthodox believers celebrate.
The Christmas Day attack targeted key Dnipropetrovsk, whose government Sergiy Lysak said Russia was” trying to destroy the state’s power system”.
‘Won’t damage Christmas ‘
One person died and 17 people were hurt in the previous strike on Kryvyi Rig, according to Lysak, which had resulted in the completion of rescue operations.
Governor Oleg Synegubov reported that Kharkiv, the second-largest area in Ukraine, was also the subject of six additional problems that injured six on Wednesday.
For the past two decades, Russian forces have bombarded Kharkiv virtually everyday.
Additionally, the government claimed that the authorities had evacuated 46 residents from the Borivske and Kupiansk place.
The city of Kupiansk, which was occupied during the war’s opening season, is being retaken by Moscow’s forces.
In a lightening strike that saw its troops retake control of the Kharkiv region in September 2022, Ukraine captured it.
Outnumbered Russian troops are on the back legs in the Kharkiv and Donetsk place farther north, ceding floor to better-equipped Soviet troops.
One Donetsk citizen was killed by Russian attacks the day before, according to government Vadym Filashkin.
Before Donald Trump’s election, which boasted that he would end the war rapidly, both sides are trying to gain a foothold, which could lead to a bargain on Moscow’s terms for Kyiv.
Ukraine has been pressing friends to provide more aid to stop flying assaults and repel enemy forces on the ground.
” I am glad to everyone who is working for the land, who is on conflict work, who is protecting our sky”, Zelenskyy said.
” Russian sin will not tear Ukraine and will not wreck Christmas”, Zelenskyy said.
