At the age of one, Thyri Wood passed away this past July. She was found in her baby on July 1, and the prosecutor’s record stated that she possibly passed away from thirst, malnutrition, and abuse. Do not be to hasty in judging her caregiver, which in this case was her 11-year-old brother. The family, Jennnifer Wood, was liable to go missing for weeks at a time, leaving the kids to mostly fend for themselves. Her most extensive removal was a weeklong trip to Las Vegas.  ,

When Thyri’s dying was initially discovered, the Los Angeles Times stated that the eldest stepson, James Williams, had been bringing meals home from school until the family kicked him out of the house, which left the 11-year-old James to look after Thyri and his child girl. Although the mom would take food into the house, it often only lasted a day. Because he believed that might be the only meal she would be able to eat, James ended up feeding her with Thyri jelly and french fries. Why didn’t people do anything? A DCFS examination had determined that the circumstance was “high,” which usually necessitates social workers to file a case. But, according to DCFS data, the social employee overrode the proposal — a decision that requires a supervisor’s acceptance.
If they believe a baby is malnourished, DCFS social workers are supposed to send the child to a health professional. However, the social worker opened the appointment before a doctor could see Thyri because she was “happy.”

Los Angeles County suddenly requested an exploration into Thyri’s death this past Tuesday, according to The Times. County directors voted to request an investigation into the issue with the Office of Child Protection. According to the Times, the business is considered the “watchdog” of the Department of Children and Family Services. For its part, DCFS says that it welcomes the inspection, stating:
Tragic tragedies serve as sobering reminders that there are families in under-resourced communities whose serious private difficulties can rapidly escalate when they lack access to adequate help. Granted, I am not an expert in such matters, but the situation surrounding Thyri and her sisters appears very clear-cut to me, as it would to any individual of consciousness.  ,
