Jennifer Crumbley, who was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter for the fatal shooting her brother carried out at a Michigan great class, has requested release from prison while her appeal is pending.
Crumbley, along with her father, was sentenced earlier this year to 10 to 15 years in prison. She wants to get a lawyer, Michael Dezsi, because she doesn’t want to risk public health and hasn’t already committed any crimes.
According to ABC News, Dezsi contends that Crumbley may be given tie so that she can keep the Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility and attend court trials.
” There’s no reason to keep her locked up”, he said. ” She hasn’t hurt people, and she’s not a flight risk. This situation is an excess, blaming a family for the problems of a complete nation”.
After being found guilty of four counts of involuntary manslaughter, Jennifer and her partner James Crumbley were given these statements in April. This is a rare instance of a parent facing criminal charges in relation to a child’s shooting.
Their brother, Ethan Crumbley, was 15 years old when he opened fire at Oxford High School in 2021, killing four kids. Without the possibility of probation, Ethan was given a life sentence.
Dezsi argued that the sentence was harsh, claiming that the situation was influenced by untold negotiations with two witnesses. He added that keeping Jennifer Crumbley imprisoned had set a bad law and lead to unfair trials.
” We’re not just standing up for her—we’re standing up for all Americans who could face this kind of scenario someday”, he added.
Crumbley may not be able to post relationship, the court has not yet decided. The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office has not yet responded to requests for comment. Prior to the shooting, the Crumbleys ‘ parents purchased the weapons used by their son but failed to secure it or encroach upon him, according to the prosecution. Both families then ignored these warning signs.
