In response to the ongoing discussion surrounding multiculturalism and high-skilled worker visas, businessman and politician Vivek Ramaswamy lately addressed the reasons why major tech companies frequently employ foreign-born and first-generation engineers.
He further stated that the issue is never related to an IQ change but rather one that is more social in his social media post on X.
” Top tech companies often hire foreign-born &, first-generation engineers over” native” Americans isn’t because of an innate American IQ deficit ( a lazy &, wrong explanation ). A crucial part of it comes down to the c-word: society. If we’re really severe about fixing the problem, we must confront the truth, because difficult issues demand tough solutions.
Ramaswamy claimed that American society has much favored stupidity over quality, a practice that dates at least to the 1990s, if no earlier. He added that this attitude is instilled from a young age and doesn’t start in school.
” A society that celebrates the homecoming queen over the math tournament champ, or the guy over the laureate, does not produce the best technicians”, he stated.
He added that a society that favors figures like Cory from” Boy Meets World,” Zach and Slater from” Saved by the Bell,” or Stefan over Steve Urkel from” Family Matters” does not produce the best professionals.
He mentioned that he knows a number of expat parents from the 1990s who purposefully limited how much TV their children could see because they thought success was impeded by programs that promoted mediocrity. Their children, he pointed out, went on to become very successful STEM graduates.
” More shows like Whiplash, fewer episodes of” Associates. ” More math tuition, fewer nights. More trip technology events, fewer Saturday morning pictures. More publications, less Television. More creating, less” chillin. ” More juggling, less” hanging out at the store.”
The Republican added that if people grow up trying to achieve normalcy, they will eventually succeed, despite the fact that the majority of standard American parents view those types of parents with skepticism.
He also asked the general public to evaluate the designs used to evaluate the families who raised their children.
” Normalcy “doesn’t reduce it in a hyper-competitive worldwide market for professional skills. And if we believe like it does, we’ll have our behinds handed to us by China”.
The Republican official added that America could reach its heights once more under Trump’s presidency if the culture “wakes up” and places success before normablism, superiority before stupidity, nerdiness over compliance, and hard labor over laziness.
” That’s the work we have cut out for us, rather than wallowing in victimhood &, just wishing ( or legislating ) alternative hiring practices into existence. I’m convinced we can do it”.
