After a yearlong research, Athena, a 4-year-old European Shepherd and Husky blend, made her way back to her family in Green Cove Springs, Florida, just in time for Christmas Eve, and yet rang the doorbell to proclaim her return.
Athena escaped her house on December 15, leaving her landlord, Brooke Comer, and her family scrambling to find her. A neighbor had sent a picture of Athena outside the home when they left temple that morning. Upon arriving house, they found Athena’s neck in her box but no clear indicators of how she had escaped.
Baker launched a popular search over the following week, posting lost dog ads that prompted neighbors and residents from local towns to assist. Athena was reported missing, suggesting she had traveled roughly 20 yards during her journey.
Despite receiving regular updates about her dog’s area, Comer’s attempts to find Athena often fell short.
” She was the hide-and-seek all-time great fighter. With every incident, my soul jumped. Because we were constantly one step behind, it was grief that followed it,” Comer said.
Christmas eve mystery
In the earlier time of Christmas Eve, the hunt came to an end in a wonderful way. At 2.30 am ( local time ), Comer received a Ring doorbell notification, accompanied by barking from her other dog.
” I was kind of in a daze”, Comer recounted. ” When I checked my cellphone, there she was, Athena, jumping at the entrance and ringing the doorbell”, Comer added.
Baker soon opened the door, and Athena bolted within, straight to her brother, who was half-asleep on the sofa. After greeting him with bites, Athena grabbed her game, ready to play, before retreating to her box for a well-earned sleep.
Player credited her home with maintaining hope throughout the ordeal thanks to the assistance of her neighbors and the wider community. Second, Athena needs to have her feet cleaned up, flea and tick remedies, and getting registered to make sure she often finds her way home.
” She’s back where she belongs, and this practice reminded us of the kindness of our community”, Comer said.
