Due to current ground conditions and anticipated rainfall, the Essex Region Conservation Authority ( ERCA ) has issued a “watershed conditions statement.”
According to The Windsor Star, Environment Canada has even issued a precipitation alert for pieces of Ontario, south of Essex, predicting up to 40 mm of rain. With the ground being frozen, there are growing concerns about localized flood and slick conditions.
The Essex location lately experienced unseasonably warm weather, which was accompanied by a small amount of rain over the previous two days. This weekend, the Greater Toronto Area ( GTA ) is expected to experience additional rainfall, with the majority of southern Ontario currently receiving more rain.
Barbara Lapido, an operational scientist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, confirmed,” The areas in southern Ontario are expecting more rains, plus the GTA, for the trip — particularly Saturday”.
ERCA’s storm perspective speech, issued Sunday night, warns that up to 30 mm of rain could lead to increased drain systems in Windsor-Essex’s remote areas. Rainfall and frozen surface combined may cause above-normal discharge, increasing the risk of localized flood.
People are advised to exercise caution near river, streams, and shores during large rain and wind. ERCA highlighted the dangers of rough banks, fast-moving liquid, and standing waters, which can mask risks. Children, dogs, and cattle should be kept aside from such areas.

Lapido noted that Saturday is likely to experience lighting, uneven freezing weather, potentially changing to weather as the temperature rises to 0°C by Sunday morning. Late on Friday, Environment Canada issued freezing weather warnings and advised drivers to be wary of icy roads and slick problems.
