As people wait in the makeshift houses at Muan International Airport to assert their loved ones ‘ remains until January 8, according to Korea Times, treatment and verification may take place.
” We can’t even hold a funeral until next Wednesday ( Jan. 8 ). My child hasn’t been identified still. I didn’t even take them off properly. Oh, my weak baby”, a mother’s howls from one of the houses at the airports.
Ko Mo, a 72-year-old whose son and daughter-in-law were among the sufferers, sat near the carrier’s access.
” Actually, I’m scared”, she said.
” I went to see my boy’s face for the last moment, but I fear they’ll just show me bits of body. However, I must see it through — it’s my child’s face”, she added as she broke into tears.
Interim handovers being considered
According to South Jeolla Provincial Police Agency’s analytical section, out of 179 mortality, the majority of bodies were heavily damaged, making identifying a lengthy process.
” We’ve sent the victims ‘ remains to the National Forensic Service ( NFS), but even with maximum effort and focus, preliminary DNA results won’t be available until next Wednesday”, head of the probing agency Na Won-oh said during a briefing.
It will be difficult to return remains to the people in distinctive state if there are only five systems. For the rest, death treatments may continue until DNA recognition is complete”, he added.
The authorities are also looking into ways to give remains to people as soon as possible, if they so choose.
According to a representative from the South Jeolla Police Agency,” We are consulting with the NFS to hand them over with written acceptance from the people.”
All defendant’s remains have been moved to momentary mortuaries, with the names of 141 patients confirmed as of Monday. If prints are possible, authorities will use them to discover victims, and they will also rely on DNA research for those whose fingerprints have been deleted or not registered.
What led to the fatal crash
One of South Korea’s most fatal aircraft accidents occurred on Sunday when a Jeju Air aircraft carrying 181 people crashed at Muan International Airport, leaving just two individuals. The two individuals, both flight servants, were rescued from the neck part of the plane who were left disoriented and shocked after the event.

The flight, which had taken off from Bangkok, was attempting to land in Muan, a town located 290 kilometers ( 180 miles ) south of Seoul.
