Following a reaction from relatives and explanation from state officials, a Texas school district reversed its decision to delete Bible books from its books, according to a report from the Daily Mail.
In response to House Bill 900, a new state law that forbids books with” sexually explicit” material, Canyon Independent School District ( ISD ) initially removed the Bible from its libraries.
The city raised questions about the Bible’s alleged sexual content, which was eventually removed. But, after receiving explanation from state agent Jared Patterson, who authored the legislation, the Bible has now been returned to the racks.
Due to these new rules, Canyon ISD Superintendent Dr. Darryl Flusche explained in a leaked email to the general public that the Bible’s entirety may no longer be accessible in classrooms. He added that students could obtain a Bible from local churches through donations, and that some books with Bible stories or passages would still be available.
The state’s decision sparked powerful reactions from parents. At a school board meeting in December, one family called the removal of the Bible “absurd”, while another, Regina Kiehne, a family with kids in the region, argued that the Bible may be valued for its intelligence and value. ” The Bible holds great significance. It ought to be valued in the Texas educational system, according to Kiehne, who was cited as telling the Daily Mail.
State legislator Kevin Sparks even criticized the action, claiming that the Bible is no” sexually explicit” and ought to be deleted. ” At a time when individuals seek assistance, the Bible provides a crucial spiritual framework”, he said on social media.
Canyon ISD reviewed the new rules and contacted Patterson for more information in the wake of the public outcry. He assured the area that the new rules don’t apply to the Bible.
Following this explanation, the city decided to return the Bible to its books, confirming that the decision was made following a thorough examination of the law to guarantee a “legally cooperative education environment.”
” We are pleased to have the Bible available in each of our Canyon ISD library”, the district said in a statement.
