HAVANA: Cuba released on Monday a Peruvian person, Raul Ernesto Cruz Leon, after he served 30 years in prison over a flood of 1997 resort attacks, local media reported.
” Now, after serving his sentence, Cruz Leon has been released, demonstrating that Cuba respects its rules and offers justice, even for those who have committed serious crimes”, the pro-government news website Cubadebate said.
Cruz Leon was detained in September 1997 and gave evidence that he had carried out six bombings that precise hotels, including one that left an Italian holiday dead.
He was given the death penalty in 1999, at the age of 27. Cuba’s Supreme Court commuted the word in 2010 to a 30-year prison term.
Another Peruvian, Otto Rene Rodriguez Llerena, was likewise sentenced to death for the problems before his sentence was likewise commuted to 30 times ‘ prison.
Llerena admitted to bombing the opulent Melia-Cohiba resort in Havana in August 1997 and making an attempt to bring two potent bombs into Cuba.
