‘ Feelings don’t make fact,’ scientist says
After the Freedom From Religion Foundation censored an article that defined the term “woman” and described people sex as “binary,” three well-known agnostic scientists resigned as leaders of the organization.
Jerry Coyne, ( pictured ) a professor emeritus of ecology at the University of Chicago, resigned as an honorary board member Saturday. The Western Standard reports that Harvard University Professor Steven Pinker and adaptive scientist Richard Dawkins did the exact a short while later.
At issue was an article Coyne wrote,” Biology is no bigotry”, which the groundwork published on its site Dec. 26 and finally removed a day later.
He wrote it in response to another part,” What is a Woman” by Kat Grant, published in November. Grant, a colleague at the Independence From Religion Foundation, concluded,” A person is whoever she says she is”.
But, Coyne’s writing, which Reality’s Final Stand republished, says that human beings may change their gender, and those who make that argument are trying to “force philosophy onto characteristics”.
Coyne even defines the term “woman”, composing,” In biology, therefore, a woman can be basically defined in four words: ‘ An adult human female.'”
Some nonbinary people or men who identify as women ( ‘transwomen’)” choose to impose ideology on biology and formulate a new definition of “woman” because they feel that their identity is not adequately recognized by biology, ”’s essay states.
He also states that” sexual is binary”, and “feelings don’t make reality”.
The essay quickly received strong backlash from LGBTQIA + readers, according to the Western Standard.
A day later, base leaders removed it from the site, calling its release a “mistake”.
In a speech, co-presidents Dan Barker and Annie Laurie Gaylor said,” Despite our best efforts to player purpose and justice, mistakes can happen, and this event is reminding the importance of continual reflection and growth.”
” Publishing this article was an error of judgment, and we have since decided to delete it because it does not adhere to our beliefs and tenets.” We regret any stress caused by this article, and we’re working to prevent it from happening again,” they said.
On Saturday, Coyne announced his resignation from the foundation’s panel on his personal site,” Why development is real”.
” That is a reactionary behavior I never abide”, he wrote, adding the officials have caved into “gender extremism”.
Over the weekend, Faculty Pinker and Dawkins both submitted their resignations to the Freedom From Religion Foundation.
” With this behavior, the Foundation is no longer a keeper of freedom from church but the imposer of a fresh church, full with doctrine, blasphemy, and heretics”, Pinker wrote in a text republished on Coyne’s website.
Dawkins even wrote a resignation letter to the charity’s rulers, describing their censorship selection as “unseemly stress” in response to “hysterical screeches from repetitive quarters”.
The former Oxford University professor has also previously been accused of” transphobia” because he has defended sex as binary.
Richard Dawkins, a well-known unbeliever, is accused of making “violent talk” out of the sexist stereotype.
