BEIJING: Last year was China’s best on record, its weather company said, as the earth experiences a surge in severe weather fuelled by climate change.
China emits the most greenhouse gases, but Beijing has pledged that emissions may reach net zero by 2060, surpassing China’s lead in greenhouse gases.
The average national temperature for 2024 was 10.92 degrees Celsius ( 51.66 Fahrenheit ), 1.03 degrees higher than average–” the warmest year since the start of full records in 1961″, the China Meteorological Administration said on its news site Wednesday night.
” The best four warmest years previously were the past four years, with all top ten best ages since 1961 occurring in the 21st century”, it added.
China has already recorded the hottest month in observation history, July, August, and the hottest and coolest autumn on report.
In a year-end message sent on Monday, the UN stated that 2024 would be the best time ever to be recorded anywhere.
The increase in temperature and the impact of all the extra heat in the atmosphere and lakes is not just related to rising temperatures, which is essentially driven by the burning of fossil fuels.
Warmer weather can carry more water vapor, and warmer waters mean greater absorption, resulting in more extreme downpours and storms.
Influences are wide-ranging, dangerous and extremely expensive, harmful home and destroying crops.
Lots killed
In China, last month, floods caused lots of fatalities and thousands of evacuated.
In May, a bridge in southern China collapsed after days of rain, killing 48 individuals.
State media reported that 240 days of residents of the southern city of Guangzhou had a record-breaking summer, breaking the record of 234 days set in 1994. The average temperature was above 22C ( 71. 6F ).

Globally, 2024 saw dangerous flooding in Spain and Kenya, many violent storms in the United States and the Philippines, and extreme drought and fire across South America.
Natural disasters caused$ 310 billion in financial losses in 2024, Zurich-based plan huge Swiss Re has said.
The 2015 Paris climate agreement set out to keep global warming at a temperature that was only two degrees Fahrenheit below pre-industrial degrees and 1.5C if possible.
In November, the World Meteorological Organization said the January-September suggest surface air temperature was 1.54C above the pre-industrial common measured between 1850 and 1900.
