Two top Jan. 6 committee lawmakers, Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS ) and former Wyoming Republican Rep. Liz Cheney, were part of a group awarded the nation’s second-highest civilian honor by President Joe Biden on Thursday.

” Up, you embody, and I mean this from the underside of my heart, the core truth of our great society”, the president told the gathered class Thursday night. ” Our politics begins and ends with the tasks of membership. That’s our job for the age. That’s what all of you, I mean this, all of you embody”.
Cheney received her award after receiving a long ovation, which she praised in her introduction as “putting the British people over party.”

The White House broadcaster equally honored Thompson for “his , lifelong commitment to safeguarding our Constitution”.
On Thursday at the White House, Biden received 20 National Citizens Medals overall. Significant beneficiaries included lawyer Mary Bonauto, NBA champion and former New Jersey Democratic Sen. Bill Bradley, and caregiver Diane Carlson Evans, the leader of the Vietnam Women’s Memorial Foundation.
