Just empowered Syrian rebel Ahmed al-Sharaa has indicated, in a new meeting, that it may take up to four years before the state will hold fresh presidential primaries.
Sharaa, also known by his war name Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, is the leader of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham ( HTS), a Sunni Islamist organization that the United States has designated as a terrorist group. Units is a relaunch of Jabhat al-Nusra, which was itself an amalgam of al-Qaeda.
A new offensive by Sharaa and his HTS makes forced Palestinian President Bashar al-Assad, who had been in power for more than 24 years, to resign.
Syria has been trident with a number of legal rights since 2011. Even with Assad’s drop, some of the competing groups are still fighting for differing intentions.
The Palestinian people and the international community are left with some questions about Syria’s future, as a result of Assad’s ouster. For now, Sharaa is among the most prominent officials in post-Assad Syria.
Sharaa, who spoke with the Saudi-run Al Arabiya television station on December 29, said he anticipates that a March national conference will bring about the resolution of the conflict between the different Palestinian militant groups.
” There will be no section of Syria in any way”, he added.
Sharaa claimed that one of the most important goals will be to integrate the Syrian Democratic Forces ( SDF) into a newly organized national armed forces. For now, peace with the largely Kurdish SDF perhaps be challenging.
Turkey views the SDF as having a strong connection to the Kurdistan Workers Party ( PKK), a Kurdish rebel group that Turkey and the US both have designated as a terrorist organization. Sharaa stated that he intends to connect the SDF into a post-Assad unity authorities in Syria, but that he won’t allow it to become a haven for the PKK and a rocket for attacks.
Following his Units makes ‘ invasion of Damascus earlier this month, Sharaa appointed many of his friends to positions of power in an interim state. Sharaa in a statement to Al Arabiya asserted that these appointments “were necessary for the time and not intended to eliminate everyone.”
As for a new state, Sharaa said he expects the March regional meeting to start to tunnel the inter-factional split. From there, he said it does take up to three times to draft a new constitution.
Because he first wants to see a thorough community population, he said the first set of new elections may take up to four years.
Despite his evil title, President Joe Biden’s leadership has been willing to give Sharaa some breathing space following Assad’s resignation.
” Make no mistake, some of the insurgent parties that took down Assad have their own terrible record of violence and human right injustices”, Biden , said , in a Dec. 8 handle after Assad fled the country. We’ve taken notice of the claims made by these insurgent group leaders in recent days. And they’re saying the right stuff now, but as they take on greater accountability, we will determine not only their thoughts, but their activities”.
Barbara A., Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs. Leaf met with Sharaa on Dec. 20. Following the meeting, she announced the Biden administration had , retracted a$ 10 million bounty , the United States had placed on the HTS leader.
Sharaa appeared to prevent discussions about the U.S. dropping its evil group classification against HTS when speaking with Al Arabiya. Sharaa stated that he intends to make the announcement about HTS’s breakdown during the upcoming national dialogue.
Some U. S. lawmakers, such as Reps. Joe Wilson (R-SC ) and Brendan Boyle (D-PA ), have also , called , for the United States to begin lowering sanctions it had imposed against Syria over the years. Some of these , sanctions , aimed to stop international financial transactions flowing to Syria. Additionally, restrictions restricted the movement of medical supplies to Syria and targeted the country’s construction sector, which made life difficult there.
Within a month, Sharaa stated that he wants to see significant improvements in Syria’s open service. Much of that does focus on lifting punishment.
