On Friday, six Indian Americans took the oath of office in the US House of Representatives, which is the highest number of Indian Americans serving in Congress so far. Congressman Ami Bera, the most mature member, discussed the news on social media, highlighting the rise of American American representation in Congress, as also reflecting on his own experience.
The six American American politicians who were sworn in to the 119th US Congress on Friday are Ami Bera, Ro Khanna, Raja Krishnamoorthi, Pramila Jayapal, Shri Thanedar, and Suhas Subramanyam.
When he began his career 12 years before, he was the only American American operating and the second in US history, according to a blog on the social media platform X. But, now six American Americans hold parliamentary seats. He also shared a picture of the six American British staff standing on the House ground and expressed his hope that Congress will soon have more American Americans on the floor.
I was the only Indian American Member of Congress and the next in U.S. past when I took the oath twelve years ago. Today, our partnership is six powerful! In the years to come, I’m looking forward to welcoming perhaps more American Americans to Congress.” Bera said in his blog.
Following Republican Mike Johnson’s nomination as home speech, the meeting held for all recently elected House people during the official opening of the 119th US Congress. All six Hindu American politicians, members of the Democrat Party, cast their votes for home minority leader Hakeem Jeffries, though the senate finally went to Johnson.

Ami Bera

Representing California’s 17th District, Ro Khanna began his career in 2017 and has become a popular progressive speech in Congress. Khanna took the oath of office for a second time in a row.
Raja Krishnamoorthi
Representing Illinois’s 8th District, Krishnamoorthi has been in business since 2017, focusing on tech and national security. He is a member of the House Intelligence Committee and the significant China Committee. On Friday, Krishnamoorthi took the oath of office for his second consecutive name.
Pramila Jayapal
Representing Washington’s 7th District, Jayapal was first elected in 2017 and has been a powerful advocate for liberal policies on healthcare and immigration. She is the first lady from India to be elected to the House of Representatives. Jayapal sworn in for her second expression on Friday.
Shri Thanedar
Serving Michigan’s 13th District since 2023, Thanedar took the oath for a minute word. The second Indian American to signify Virginia’s 10th District, Subramanyam was elected in 2024 after killing Republican Mike Clancy.
