PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan revealed that his party had had “backdoor links” with Pakistan’s military prior to the protests in November 2024, but he later clarified that these discussions have since been ended. Gohar confirmed that all continued conversations are only with the state, Dawn reported.
According to Gohar, the PTI administration immediately pursued conversations with the defense, acknowledging the military’s important role in decision-making in the country. These connections were “in a positive way” up until the imprisonment of PTI leader Imran Khan in a fresh incident.
Gohar claimed that Khan had been granted parole in the Toshakhana circumstance, which involved the contentious purchase of a Bulgari jewelry collection, but that he soon got arrested on suspicion of a plot to disrupt the September 2024 opposition, which caused the military’s negotiations to end.
” Today, the PTI is no holding secret talks with the establishment”, Gohar said. He emphasized, however, that there still may be more openness to potential discussions with the defense. At this time, PTI’s emphasis is on engaging in exclusive speech with the state, according to this statement.
Additionally, the PTI president responded to rumors about an alleged present to relocate Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to his Banigala residence. Khan’s confinement was quickly refuted by Gohar, who reiterated that he believes it to be unlawful. ” There is no point in considering like an sell”, Gohar stated, aligning with Khan’s position on the matter. The PTI party’s refusal to satisfy any provisional release further strengthens the party’s position on his cruel prison, reported Dawn.
However, Gohar rejected the idea of a multilateral conference between Imran Khan, PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, and PPP’s Asif Ali Zardari, which had been suggested by PML-N head Rana Sanaullah to handle the world’s continuing political crises. He referred to the incongruent differences between the political figures involved and described the plan as “idealistic.”
” I may see this day]talks between the three frontrunners ] in my life, but for now, this isn’t possible”, Gohar remarked, indicating that such a speech is very doubtful at the present time.
However, in Peshawar, PTI’s Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqqas Akram addressed the issue of the ongoing conversations with the state. He assured that the negotiations wouldn’t be hampered by the anticipated verdict in the$ 90 million event on January 6.
” The deals will remain, keeping in view the president’s seriousness”, Akram stated, emphasising that the group had no linked the ruling to the conversations. He clarified that the transfer of PTI employees who had been sentenced by military courts had no relation to the ongoing discussions with the state.
” Our personnel were released because they were stupid, and it was not possible to further keep them in jail”, Akram asserted.
The PTI has also been active in a civil disobedience action, which began with an elegance to Citizens living abroad to refrain from sending payments. Within two weeks, Akram predicted that the effects of this activity would start to manifest. He stated that if the state met their needs, such as releasing all imprisoned group members and creating a judicial commission to investigate the May 9 and November 26 protests, the PTI would review the situation and ponder withdrawing the activity, according to Dawn.
” The civil disobedience movement is necessary for a country where the Constitution, laws, and human rights are violated and lawmakers are abducted”, Akram explained, underscoring the PTI’s ongoing commitment to reform. He also criticised the internet disruptions, warning that they would negatively affect Pakistan’s digital economy, particularly the youth who contribute significantly to the sector.
