After President Joe Biden gave George Soros the Presidential Medal of Freedom, Elon Musk has taken aim at businessman George Soros in his unique combination of fun and discussion. By comparing Soros to Darth Sidious, the cunning Sith Lord from Star Wars, Musk, the owner of X ( previously Twitter ), added fuel to the online trolling frenzy.
Contrary to conspiracy theories, Soros is accused of having secret influence over international politics. Musk’s comment, “George Soros looking quite good here. Must be the lighting,” added a touch of sarcasm that ignited both laughter and debate online.
The image that caused a stir
This contrast didn’t arrive out of the blue. Soros, a billionaire philanthropist, is typically accused by plot scholars of covertly controlling world events. Musk’s message, dripping with laughter, played into this tale, leading to a storm of reactions—ranging from laughing to outrage—across social media.
Biden’s Medal of Freedom fires censure
Musk wasn’t the only one doubting Biden’s decision to recognize Soros. Bloggers flooded X with strong views.
One person wrote,” Joe Biden has disgraced the Medal of Freedom”! Another controversial post compared Soros to Hitler, and a third post urged that President Trump imprison him.
Adding to the pile-on, a third person declared,” The person should have a warrant against him, no a medal”.
Is Musk becoming the ‘ Soros of the Right’?
Ironically, Musk himself has been likened to Soros, albeit from a diverse intellectual perception. In a statement at Mar-a-Lago, Musk joked,” I guess someone’s got to be the George Soros on the right. I’d phone myself George Soros of the core, I think”.
While Soros is a long-time supporter of liberal causes, Musk positions himself as a hero of” common feeling” principles—supporting free talk, safe borders, and secure places. His political engagement, however, has led some to question whether Musk’s growing influence will strengthen international fragmentation.
Detractors and supporters weigh in.
The similarities between Soros and Musk have sparked disputes among political and media critics:
Republicans contend that Musk is subject to more rigorous attention than Soros. How come the internet persistently and fraudulently scrutinizes Elon Musk but gives George and Alex Soros a complete, questioned Fox News number Mark Levin?
Critics, however, point to Musk’s inflammation speech as proof of his partisanship. His 2023 post matching Soros to Magneto, a Holocaust victim, drew widespread condemnation. Musk eventually claimed that Soros “hates humanity”, more fueling the reaction.
The bigger image: A tale of two entrepreneurs
While both Musk and Soros wield considerable effect, their tactics differ:
Soros: Through the Open Society Foundations, Soros funds progressive causes, focusing on systemic reforms such as criminal justice and immigration policies. However, his efforts have made him a lightning rod for conspiracy theories, often tinged with antisemitism.
Musk: Musk’s approach is more direct and personal. His political moves often align with his business interests and his vision of “common sense” governance, emphasizing efficiency and disruption over systemic change.
Why it concerns
Elon Musk’s growing involvement in politics raises questions about the morals of billionaire-led engagement. His detractors warn that his unregulated influence—spanning social media, software, and battle donations—could undermine democratic norms.
Musk’s followers see him as a necessary counter to numbers like Soros, arguing that his treatments are rooted in technology and expediency.
