Elon Musk ignited a firestorm after President Joe Biden awarded billionaire financier George Soros the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, on Saturday. Known for his sharp criticism of Soros, Musk called the recognition a “travesty” during a podcast appearance, claiming Soros “fundamentally hates humanity.”
Musk furthered his disapproval by posting a joke on Twitter praising Soros and Darth Sidious from Star Wars, saying,” George Soros looks quite good around. Must be the lighting”.
GOP leaders join the backlash
Democratic leaders joined Musk in condemning Biden’s choice. The prize was referred to as “another slap in the face of America” by GOP leader Nikki Haley, who criticized Biden’s mercy choices and accused him of placing political agendas before national values.
” Sixteen time until the opening. What’s future? January 20th didn’t come quickly enough”, Haley remarked.
Donald Trump Jr. echoed the furore by posting a popular video of a pie deliveryman rescuing five children from a burning house. ” This man deserves the Presidential Medal of Freedom, no Soros”, he tweeted, criticizing the addition of Soros in the list of winners.
Soros’ philanthropy acknowledged amid criticism
Soros, known for his world generosity and campaigning for animal rights, received the award for his work in promoting politics, learning, and justice worldwide. The author praised his voyage from surviving Nazi-occupied Hungary to becoming a proponent of free cultures and social justice.
Alexander Soros described him as an” American soldier who has spent his life fighting for freedom and individual right,” referring to his father as a” American soldier who has spent his life fighting for freedom and individual right.”
A controversial figure in politicians
While Soros is celebrated for his generosity, his political engagement has long drawn criticism. Soros, a substantial donation to the Democratic Party, has also funded liberal city attorneys, a proceed his critics accuse of contributing to rising crime in major US cities.
His global advocacy has been no less contentious. In a 2020 statement at the World Economic Forum, Soros criticized patriotism, including in India, calling it the “biggest loss” for international politics.
A star-studded recipient record
Soros was one of 19 Medal of Freedom consumers, including football star Lionel Messi, hoops star Magic Johnson, advocate and performer Bono, and artist Michael J. Fox. Civil rights head Fannie Lou Hamer received belated awards.
The identification of Soros, however, remains the most examined, exacerbating the cultural and political split surrounding his reputation.
