A serious winter wind swept across the northern United States on Sunday, unleashing snow, ice, strong gusts, and plunging temperature, creating dangerous traveling situations. Forecasters warned that some areas might experience the “heaviest rain in a generation.”
States of emergency have been declared in Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, Kansas, Arkansas, and Missouri, while also generally warm Florida splints for unique melting problems.
At least 8 inches of snow are expected in Kansas and Missouri, according to the National Weather Service’s wind warnings, especially for those north of Interstate 70. Strong winds reached speeds of up to 45 miles per hour ( 72.42 km per hour ), creating blizzard conditions. The alert was extended to New Jersey through Monday and earlier Tuesday.

Wind service issued tornado warnings
Sunday into Monday, the climate system was forecast to make an advance in the Ohio Valley and the Mid-Atlantic areas, bringing freezing temperatures as far north as Florida. Powerful gusts caused trees deterioration in the Deep South.

Many car incidents reported

Stay in, stay secure: emergency declared
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin issued an urgent charter via X on Friday, urging people to cast ballots before Tuesday’s special elections.
While Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear announced a state building closing for Monday, urging people to stay indoors for health, Governor Beshear also declared an emergency.

On Monday, school shutdown were anticipated to be popular. Educational organizations across Indiana, Maryland, Virginia and Kentucky began announcing refunds on Sunday afternoon.
