U. S. ARMY , Bruno Orig , U. S. ARMY , Bruno Orig A Hawaii man who fell in war during the Korean War was one of seven ser Âice members posthumously awarded the Medal of , Honor Friday, the highest , U. S.  , defense nomination for courage in war.
Co.  , Bruno Orig , was serving with Company G of the 2nd Infantry Division ‘s , 23rd Infantry Regiment , near Chipyong-ni in , South Korea , on , Feb. 15, 1951, where American and French troops were trying to fight a statistically better Chinese power.
When he noticed several other soldiers who had been hurt in an ongoing army attack while returning to his product from a wire-laying mission. First support was given to them as they rushed to support them when they were shot. Working with other men, he began moving the wounded to security, making numerous visits.
He observed that all but one member of the machine gun crew had been hurt during one of these excursions. According to the prize reference, “without fear, he volunteered to guy the tool. Personal Orig, who was still in this position, fired so forcefully on the enemy that a withdrawn pleasant platoon was able to retreat without a second casualty.
He fired on the enemy’s advance until Company G’s posts were taken over. The reference reads,” Personal Orig was found dead beside his weapons and the region in front of his weapon was rife with enemy dead,” after his fellow soldiers regained floor later that day.
At a meeting Friday at the , White House, Orig’s sister , Loretta Orig, 91, of , Kalihi, received the Medal of Honor from President , Joe Biden , on her son’s representative along with home users Charles Allen III,  , Elia Allen , and , Francis Kau.
Of the seven support people to receive the award, six received them prematurely.
” These are real, to their main champions”, Biden said during the ceremony. ” Champions of various divisions, different positions and even various years. But soldiers who all went above and beyond the call of duty—heroes who all deserve our world’s highest and oldest martial reputation, the Medal of Honor”.
Orig was first given the Distinguished Service Cross, the second-highest defense distinction for bravery in a fight. The others who had formerly received lower prizes recognized Friday in the same way.
In 2021, Defense Secretary , Lloyd Austin , directed a new assessment of the activities of soldiers of specific immigrants, including Asian and Pacific Islander service people, to decide if their behavior had warranted the Medal of Honor.
The government has started conducting reviews of honesty awards. Some soldiers who were given the Medal of Honor for acts of courage by friends and immediate superiors were later given lower honors because of discrimination from higher-ranking officials who weighed the recommendations.
According to the Congressional Medal of , Honor Society, of the over 3, 500 consumers, simply 94 Black ser Âice people or human employees have received the award to day, along with 59 Latino and 35 Asian or Pacific Islander company members or human employees.
Bruno Orig , was born in , Hawaii , in 1930 to Filipino expat families and was raised in , Damon Tract , near the , Honolulu aircraft. He was one of eight sisters. His father, father and older sibling served in the , U. S. Army , during the world war.
Orig was 11 years old and living in , Honolulu , when , Pearl Harbor , was attacked , Dec. 7, 1941. After graduating from , Farrington High School , in 1949, he followed family traditions and engaged, education as a gentle arms soldier. After his death on the , Korean Peninsula, his younger brother,  , Francis Omboy, would serve in the Army and fight in , Vietnam.
Loretta Orig , is the last of his surviving siblings, but according to the Army, later generations of the family have continued to serve.
U. S.  , Rep , Ed Case , of , Hawaii , attended Friday ‘s , White House , ceremony with Orig’s family.
The true son ofHawai’i, who “represented the very best of our military and of our nation,” said Case in a statement,” This true son ofHawai’i gave the ultimate measure of devotion to save the lives of his comrades.”
The other recipients were Pfc, who were recognized Friday.  , Wataru Nakamura, Cpl.  , Fred B. McGee, Pfc.  , Charles R. Johnson, Gen.  , Richard E. Cavazos, Capt.  , Hugh R. Nelson Jr. and Spc. 4th Class , Kenneth J. David.
David, the only living recipient of the bunch, received his award for actions , May 7, 1970, in Vietnam ‘s , Thua Thien Province , while serving with the 101st Airborne.
” Today we award these individuals a Medal of Honor”, Biden said. ” We can’t stop here. Together as a nation, it is up to us to give this medal meaning. To keep fighting. To keep fighting for one another, for each other. To continue defending everything that these heroes, of which many died, fought for.
