Harris, who described the role as a” sacred commitment,” announced the results of each country’s seats to the combined session.
In response to the demonstrations on January 6th at the Capitol, Congress passed the Electoral Count Reform Act in 2022. The action specifically limits any authority to accept or change electoral votes, putting emphasis on the vice president’s supervisory role in the accreditation process.
The legal process has now sealed Trump’s victory, bringing the contested presidential race to a close.
