President-elect Donald Trump vowed to reject outgoing President Joe Biden’s eleventh-hour restrictions on expanded onshore digging in the U. S.
The Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, which includes components of the Gulf of Mexico and the Northern Bering Sea, will be invoked by Biden on Monday.
” Cutting off these shores could irreversibly harm places we hold dear, and it is needless to meet our nation’s energy wants,” said my decision. It is not for the hazards”, Biden said in a speech.
Democratic and Republican governors and lawmakers “worked and called for greater security of our oceans and coastlines from damages that offshore oil and natural gas digging may bring,” according to Biden, and his decision is a result of conversations he had with residents and residents of coastal areas.
It is obvious to me that the relatively low fossil fuel possible in the areas I am removing do not support the climate, public wellbeing, and financial risks that may result from new rent and drilling, he said, “in balancing the many uses and benefits of America’s sea.”
Trump’s transition staff was quick to take offence. His national press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, called the decision a “disgraceful” act of political retaliation against citizens who “gave President Trump a mission to improve cutting and lower fuel costs”.
” Rest assured, Joe Biden does fail, and we will drill, child, drill”, Leavitt said in a statement.
Trump’s fast response producer, Jake Schneider, said Biden’s decision to ban “oil and oil cutting on 625 million acres of U. S. sea”, is but a part of his plan to “burn it all down as he nears return”.
Trump himself stated on his Truth Social media platform that any actions taken by Biden in these final months of his presidency would remain immediately overturned with the launch of a second Trump Administration.
” Biden is making every effort to make the Change as expensive and absurd as possible, including the Green New Scam and other money-wasting Hoaxes,” from lawfare like never before seen to expensive and absurd Executive Orders. Worry not, these’ Orders ‘ will all be terminated immediately, and we will be a Nation of Common Sense and Strength. MAGA”, he wrote, valuation his.
U. S. Sen. Ed Markey hailed Biden’s news as excellent for New England and its many water companies.
” Our fishing, seaside areas, and beautiful communities deserve this peace of mind and this security from pollution. I applaud this decision to put the maintaining of Massachusetts ‘ market, cultural identity, and setting above the passions of Big Oil lords”, Markey said in a statement.
About 40 % of the population in the United States lives in a coastal community that depends “on a healthy ocean to thrive,” according to the White House. Nearly 400 municipalities and over 2, 300 native, state, Tribal, and national officials accountable for their coastal communities, the White House said in a reality plate, have “formally opposed the growth of offshore drilling in these areas in view of its severe climate, health, and financial threats”.
The ban order, the White House says, means that over the four years he’s been in office” President Biden has now conserved more than 670 million acres of U. S. lands, waters, and ocean – more than any president in history”.
The U. S. is the world’s largest oil producer, according to the U. S. Energy Information Administration, a position the nation has maintained for at least the last seven years. It is not the case, the president said, that the nation must choose between cheaper energy and a cleaner environment.
We don’t need to make a decision between keeping our oceans healthy, our coastlines resilient, and the food they produce safe, and keeping energy prices low. Those are false choices. The right thing to do is to protect America’s coasts and oceans, which will enable generations-long growth in communities and the economy, according to Biden.
