At least 13 people were killed and 30 people injured in a Russian-guided weapon assault on Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia, according to authorities, as reported by Al Jazeera. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, expressed condolences to the victims ‘ families as they were confirmed.
In a video shared on X ( formerly Twitter ), Zelenskyy said,” Russians struck Zaporizhzhia with aerial bombs. It was a deliberate attack on the city. As of now, dozens of people are reported wounded. All are receiving the necessary support. Painfully, we know of 13 individuals killed”.
” My sympathies to their loved ones and people. Admittedly, the number of deaths may improve. Nothing is crueler than dropping underwater bombs on a city in the knowledge that regular citizens will suffer as a result. Russia’s despair needs to be put under fire. Ukraine needs to support the defense of lives. He continued,” Only through power is such a war been ended with a profound serenity.”
Videos from the scene showed firefighters battling lights and bloody residents receiving emergency care. According to Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office, high-rise home blocks, an industrial service, and other facilities were damaged, with dust hitting a streetcar and a vehicle carrying people.
At least two private buildings were struck by guided bombs fired at a private area of the city by Russian forces, according to local governor Ivan Fedorov.
As Russia and Ukraine try to show strength back of US President-elect Donald Trump’s opening on January 20, the problems coincide with rising tensions.
The Russian army previously claimed responsibility for invoking a gas storage depot in the Saratov region of Russia, which burned a facility that provided missiles to a Russian air base. Given the limitations on the use of Western-provided weapons, Kyiv has been developing its own long-range arms to target target far back behind Russian ranges.
Zelenskyy stressed the need for robust protection measures for Ukraine during a press event in Kyiv. In response to Trump’s subsequent remarks on NATO, he said,” To be honest, I believe that we have a right to demand critical security guarantees from places that aim for peace in the world.”
At his Mar-a-Lago house, Trump said,” Russia has something right on their porch, and I may understand their feelings about that”, referring to Ukraine’s Nato interests. Zelenskyy noted that countries like the US, Germany, and Slovakia have hindered Ukraine’s quick Nato account.
