‘How about we buy two US states?’: Canadian official laughs off Trump’s takeover idea

Who is Doug Ford? Canadian official laughs off Trump’s Canada takeover idea: 'How about we buy two American states?'
Ford’s notes were in response to Trump’s renewed drive for integration with Canada.

Doug Ford, the leading of Ontario, has never been one to avoid confrontation, but his most recent sparring feud with Donald Trump, the former US president, has ushered in new territory for the Canada-US active. Ford rebuffed Trump’s controversial idea that Canada may be the 51st condition at a press conference on Monday, offering a counteroffer that caught anyone off guard.
” To the chairman, I’ll make him a counteroffer”, Ford said, obviously irritated by the problem. ” How about if we buy Alaska? And at the same time, Minnesota and Minneapolis are being thrown in? You know, it’s no realistic”.
Ford made the remarks in response to Trump’s renewed force for economic and military integration with Canada, which the former senator claimed may help both countries. Ford, nevertheless, was having none of it.
” He may get joking, but under my view, that will never, ever happen”, Ford declared, emphasizing his dedication to protecting American independence.
    Ford’s flaming history of rebellion
Ford has also locked ears with Trump before, which is not the first day. The Ontario Premier threatened in 2024 to stop exporting electricity to more than a million people and impose a moratorium on American-made ale as retribution for Trump’s proposed 25 % tariffs on French items.
” If they come at us, we have to stand up for People”, Ford said at the time. ” It would cut off the lights to a million-and-a-half Americans”.
With state like Michigan and New York relying heavily on Ontario’s power supply, Canada is the biggest producer of electricity to the US. Ford’s strong threats made the gentle dependence between the two countries clear.
    Trudeau’s consider: A snowball’s chance in hell
Justin Trudeau, the departed Canadian prime minister, also spoke out about Trump’s 51st position plan. In a fiery post on X ( formerly Twitter ), Trudeau dismissed the idea outright:
” There isn’t a snowball’s chance in hell that Canada would be part of the United States”, he wrote. Being each other’s biggest dealing and security spouse benefits both our states ‘ employees and communities.
Trump’s response came as Trump stepped up his speech on Truth Social, asserting that many Canadians” LOVE being the 51st status” and that combining the two countries would reduce tariffs and improve security for Russia and China.
    Trump’s great perception
Trump’s interests don’t quit at Canada. The president-elect has even revived his interest in purchasing Greenland, a walk he first floated during his past term. He posted a joke on Truth Social on Monday with the caption” Oh, Canada” that depicts a map of North America with both Canada and Greenland draped in the British emblem.
” We will defend it, and appreciate it, from a very violent outside World. Create GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN”! Trump proclaimed, while his brother, Donald Trump Jr., toured Greenland wearing a MAGA helmet.
