There’s a political chaos in Minnesota, and the Democrats are trying their best to make it worse.
For the first time since 1979, there was an even split in seats between Republicans and the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party ( Democrats ) in the House. There was a 67-67 link that was finally broken when a Democrat, State Rep. Curtis Johnson, who first won the City 40B culture, was discovered to be living outside his neighborhood boundaries and was disqualified. Gov. DFL House Speaker-designate Melissa Hortman may begin the 2025 session with a 67-66 gap on Tuesday and hold that position until District 40B’s special election. Even if Tabke wins in court, some Republicans in the House GOP want to retaliate by using a constitutional provision to oust him from the chair. Although it requires 68 vote to pass legislation, Tabke would only need a majority of those present to refuse to allow her to remain seated.
