Despite the animals ‘ population boom becoming a threat to ranchers, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service ( FWS ) rejected petitions from Wyoming and Montana to delist grizzly bears as endangered.
House Republicans have urged the Biden administration to revoke protections for bears whose restoration goals for withdrawal have more than doubled since the agency’s judgement on Wednesday.
” The USFWS’s refusal to delist the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem grizzly bear is just the latest example of the company’s utter failure to follow the intent and purpose of the]Endangered Species Act ]”, Rep. Harriet Hageman, R-Wyo., told The Federalist.
In the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, where bobcats have multiplied and tripled their variety, Hageman was the original partner of regulations to delist the animals while endangered.
” The]Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem ] grizzly population has exceeded recovery goals for over 2 decades ( by over 100 % ), yet here we are”, Hageman told The Federalist. The Endangered Species Act has little to do with recovering and protecting endangered species, according to what we have been saying for thus much: it has to do with property usage control and limiting exposure to and use of our natural resources.
The House Natural Resources Committee approved Hageman’s act, but it was not cast in the room by the entire group.
According to Bruce Westerman, an Arkansas Republican who chairs the House Natural Resources Committee,” the only sensible announcement by the USFWS today would have been a complete withdrawal of the big endure in these communities.” By hiding behind governmental bureaucracy, USFWS flagrantly disregards science in making decisions.
” Their decision harm populations, especially farmers and ranchers, who live under the threat of giant keep problems.
Since 1975, big animals have been listed as a officially endangered species. The slow-reproducing bears, but, have recovered beyond their inhabitants objectives outlined by the Fish and Wildlife Service. The animals are then going well beyond the six designated communities where their communities were destined to live, including Greater Montana, Northern Continental Divide, Cabinet-Yaak, Bitterroot, Selkirk, and the North Cascades.

The organization proposed new regulations that would allow private landowners to eliminate any bears that threaten animal, despite its decision to outlaw grizzlies from the endangered species list.
In a press release, USFWS Director Martha Williams stated that” This classification will help the healing of grizzly bears and give a stronger basis for future delisting.” The proposed changes will give management agencies and landowners more tools and flexibility to deal with human/bear conflicts, which are a crucial component of giant bear recovery.
