Joe Biden, the president of the United States, canceled his journey to Rome, Italy, and Vatican City on Wednesday to tackle the catastrophic wildfires in California. He had scheduled to leave on Thursday evening after attending a Jimmy Carter memorial service.
At least five people have died as a result of fire in Los Angeles, and hundreds have been forced to flee. Over 1, 000 structures, including homes, businesses, and monuments, have been destroyed.
The leader, according to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, has decided to omit his future trip to Italy so that he can concentrate on directing the national response to the fire.
President Biden made the decision to withdraw his future trip to Italy while staying focused on directing the whole national response in the days ahead after returning this night from Los Angeles, where earlier today he had met with police, fire, and emergency personnel fighting the ancient fires raging in the area and approved a Major Disaster declaration for California.
The journey was seen as a major event for Biden’s administration, offering a chance to emphasise American relationships. The three-day journey would have included discussions with Pope Francis, Italian President Sergio Mattarella, and Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
After meeting his second great-grandchild and receiving a presentation on the flames, Biden made his way back to Washington on Wednesday night.
‘ Southern California, we are with you’
In a blog on the social media platform X, Biden stated that the federal government supports California.
“FEMA Administrator Criswell and my Homeland Security Advisor, Liz Sherwood-Randall, have only briefed me on the most recent developments in our national response to the fire that have spread across Los Angeles. Southeastern California, we are with you. And we’re never letting up”, he said.
Biden even approved California governor Gavin Newsom’s plea for a major crisis charter.
In a separate post, the leader stated that” I have approved Governor Newsom’s request for a major disaster declaration and ordered Federal assistance to substitute response efforts in areas affected by fire, ensuring effected communities and individuals have instant access to funds and assets to commence their recovery.”
Biden shows assistance for paramedics
In support of firefighters attempting to keep life from fire, Biden backed them.
” To the brave men and women who ran towards risk over the past 24 hours in Southern California, I want you to know your President, and the rest of the country, is with you. You risked your life to save the life of your own Americans. We are obliged to you”, he said in another post.
