Matt Gaetz, the previous U. S. member turned conventional wire host, may not be done with politicians.
The original U.S. member from Florida told the Tampa Bay Times he’s” starting to think about running for governor” in 2026, days after the launch of a legislative record on sexual misconduct allegations against Gaetz.
Chief among Gaetz’s reported plan problems? The healthcare crisis.
” I have a powerful vision for the state”, Gaetz said. It’s not to hand the keys to the condition over to the healthcare industry, but I am aware of how to solve the healthcare issue. I would be the Republican party’s most pro-consumer participant if I ran.
With the vote only 22 months away, Gaetz said he needs more time to consider whether to run for president of Florida and to talk about it with his partner, Ginger.
But Gaetz boldly mulling a move is yet noticeable.
He is one of the most well-known characters among the MAGA fan base. His support for financial democracy and legalizing marijuana, to mention only his own controversy, may make him a special Republican member.
Additionally, he ranks among the most hated Democrats in the country among Democrats. When he got Trump’s smile to function as attorney general,  , Florida Democratic Party Chair Nikki Fried called Gaetz , a” conflict representative who cares about everything but his own private power”.
Gaetz has been rumored to be considering running for governor for some time.
A previous Panhandle-area state member who was first elected to Congress in 2016, Gaetz won some friends in Washington, yet among his own party. In the last days of his last word, the House Ethics Committee , voted to launch a damning statement that found ,” large evidence” that Gaetz used improper drugs, accepted gifts outside of allowable limits, paid women for sex, and had sex with a 17-year-old girl during the time he served in Congress.
The U. S. Department of Justice , investigated Gaetz for gender trafficking , before finally deciding not to command him in 2023.
According to rumors, President-elect Donald Trump about certainly resented his candidacy for office of attorney general in light of the ethics report. Gaetz claimed that his nomination for attorney general was “unfairly distracting the important function of the Trump/Vanes change” when he posted to X and removed his name from consideration in November.
Gaetz said he doesn’t think the results will prevent a possible governor’s work.
” Those lies have been told about me for times”, he said. ” They’ve never affected my ability to win votes”.
Gaetz’s reported personal deficiencies didn’t seem to bother Trump, the Republican regular carrier. When Trump chose Gaetz to be his solicitor general, much of the Ethics Committee’s report was known or the subject of significant rumors.
Gaetz resigned his U. S. House seat after getting Trump’s candidacy. He is currently the host of One America News, a cord system.
It’s not yet distinct who would join Gaetz in the Democratic ranks if he were to work. Gov. Ron DeSantis is term-limited out.
Byron Donalds, the governor of Florida, Wilton Simpson, the director of crops in Florida, and Ashley Moody, the attorney general of Florida, have all been rumored to be considering running for the Republican nomination. ( Moody is also widely regarded as the top candidate to succeed Marco Rubio in the Senate. )
Gaetz stated that he would choose the Republican primary as the decisive election in the contest to determine Florida’s leadership in 2026.
Some Floridians — i. e. Democrats — are just not credible provincial, Gaetz said.
