Actor Alec Baldwin has filed a lawsuit alleging malicious prosecution and slander by New Mexico lawyers and law enforcement six months after being cleared of criminal charges in the” Rust” shooting suicide.
The 73-page legal problem, filed Thursday in Santa Fe, New Mexico, titles special counsel Kari T. Morrissey, 1st Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies, Santa Fe County sheriff’s deputies and the Santa Fe County fee. It claims that state officials made an effort to disparage Baldwin, and that their achievement of criminal charges against him deprived him of his legal rights.
According to the lawsuit, the defendants were “blinded by their desire to indict Alec Baldwin for all the bad reasons, at any cost.” Regardless of the evidence or the law, accused sought at every opportunity to blame Baldwin for the deeds and errors of another.
Baldwin is seeking an unknown amount of damages, including punitive injuries, according to the coat.
” As a direct and proximate result of the accused ‘ absurd and unlawful activities, Baldwin has suffered and continues to suffer significant past and future problems… including … legal expenses, loss of income, severe emotional distress, mental pain, and embarrassment”, the complaint said.
The involuntary murder case against Baldwin was  , dismissed by a prosecutor in July , on what what was supposed to be the next day of the director’s test. Instead, defense counsel grilled those seeking Baldwin’s death in October 2021 by bringing up fresh issues with how New Mexico law enforcement officers and lawyers handled information.
The choice ended a roughly three-year struggle for the” 30 Rock” and” Hunt for Red October” sun after the on-set horror, when Baldwin accidentally shot Hutchins, the photographer on the low-budget eastern, during a primary run-through of a picture.
Baldwin’s prosecutors accused the state of misconduct, pointing to a sample of examined shots that a prospective see turned over to sheriff’s researchers next March. Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer of the New Mexico 1st Judicial District Court blasted the management of the information, which was not presented to the defence, and dismissed the second charge brought against Baldwin.
According to Baldwin attorneys Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro,” crimininal prosecutions are supposed to be about the search for truth and justice, not for the pursuit of personal or political gain or to harass the innocent.” ” Kari Morrissey and the other defendants violated that basic principle, over and over, and trampled on Alec Baldwin’s rights”.
Despite Sommer’s dismissal of the case and her harsh criticism of the sheriff’s deputies ‘ actions, the lawsuit claimed,” this action is necessary to defend Baldwin’s rights and deter Defendants from attempt to do this to anyone else.”
” In October 2023 the prosecution team became aware that Mr. Baldwin intended to file a retaliatory civil lawsuit”, Morrissey said in a statement. ” We look forward to our day in court”.
Hannah Gutierrez, the first armorer in the movie, was found guilty by a jury in March of involuntary manslaughter in Hutchins ‘ death.
