US outgoing President Joe Biden endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris‘s potential election for the 2028 Democratic presidential election, asserting she was” qualified” despite her major battle to President-elect Donald Trump.
On Friday nights, speaking only 10 weeks before his White House withdrawal, Biden stated,” I think she’s capable to work once in four years. She will have to make that choice.
By selecting Harris in 2020, Biden became the first woman to hold this position and the first vice president of the United States with an Indian and African American identity.
After a sparsely received political controversy against Donald Trump in Atlanta in the summer of 2024, Biden resigned and backed Harris, who was then confirmed as the Democratic Party’s nominee for president.
But, in the November 5 vote, Harris was unsuccessful in her charge against Trump for the president. She has not yet made any decisions about what she will do next.
The departing leader primarily avoided addressing concerns about his own re-election campaign during an evening press conference, where he had been talking about jobs statistics, according to a report from the New York Post.
Biden insisted,” I think I would have beaten Trump, could have beaten Trump, and I think that Kamala could have beaten Trump, may include beaten Trump”, whilst looking downward, offering no justification for Harris’s lost in all seven battleground state.
After a subpar June discussion performance that raised questions about his mental prowess among other Democrats, Biden stated that his top priority was party unity.
” It was the greatest glory in my life to become leader United States, but I didn’t want to be one who caused a group that wasn’t unified to lose an election”, Biden elaborated, expressing trust in Harris’s features.
Harris had planned an international journey identifying political accomplishments in order to secure the lowest Electoral College votes for any Democrat member since Michael Dukakis in 1988. But, she cancelled due to ongoing California fires.
The planned plan included Singapore for Asian policy dialogues, Bahrain for Middle Eastern matters, and Germany to tackle NATO’s reaction to Russia’s Ukraine war.
Biden concluded by announcing his goal to preserve public awareness post-presidency, unlike George W. Bush’s approach to modern politicians, stating,” I’m not going to be out of sight or out of mind”.
