Edgar Maddison Welch, the guy behind the legendary 2016″ Pizzagate” shooting, was fatally shot by North Carolina officers on Saturday night during a routine traffic stop, reported the local press.
Welch’s title became well-known almost ten years ago when he opened a weapon inside Comet Ping Pong, a Washington, DC, restaurant that was allegedly linked to a conspiracy theory that prominent Democrats were operating a child sex trafficking ring.
According to a Kannapolis Police Department reports launch, the tragedy unfolded in Kannapolis, North Carolina, where authorities stopped a car connected to someone with an excellent misdemeanor warrant. Welch, a passenger in the car, drew a gun and aimed it at soldiers as they approached. Despite repeated requests to drop the weapon, Welch refused. Two soldiers opened fire, striking him. He was taken to the hospital and passed away two days later.
In the” Pizzagate” case, Welch had driven to Washington armed with an assault rifle, intent on investigating the baseless claims circulating online during the 2016 presidential election. Inside the cafe, he fired at a locked drawer, convinced it concealed information of the crime. Welch, who realized the promises were false, gave himself up without incident and with no injuries. He was given a four-year jail sentence in 2017 and was set free in 2020.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is looking into Welch’s shooting suicide. The soldiers involved are on administrative leave, following process, police said.
