People from various parts of the country like to make fun of us when it happens, but it’s not something we see a lot of these in Atlanta. Rightly so, I suppose. We do kind of lose our brains. Nevertheless, many of us woke up to a few feet of it on Friday night, and I think we’re doing fine. For the most part.  ,

Do you get to enjoy shoveling it as well? A friend of mine who lives up northeast inquired when I sent her a photograph of my street covered in the white stuff.  ,
” Shovel? Huh? Why did I accomplish that”? In these areas, we don’t scoop winter; instead, we only canceled everything and waited for it to evaporate. Or, in some cases, we finally put those heavy sweaters and skis that are buried in the backs of our lockers to good use.  ,
Many businesses are currently closed, including the ancient store I lease a space from, which I just learned is closed today. I may try to open later, but who knows what this strange weather will do? — and the country’s busiest aircraft has grounded all planes, canceling at least 896 and delaying 439. Delta blamed the “worse-than-expected” autumn weather after travellers had to kill a trip that slid on the airport. A few people had small wounds, but alas, it sounds like no one was really hurt.  ,

But is there a Waffle House? That’s how people in the South actually determine how bad the temperature is. Also, it appears that it is, at least in the northern Atlanta neighborhood of Carroll County, but I guess things aren’t too bad.  ,

More than just this spring wind will have to be in order for Waffle House to close! These women are ready and willing to assist people in Carroll County who needs to be out now! @ATLNewsFirst photograph. twitter.com/2oMV61mCC3— Courteney Jacobazzi (@Cjacobazzi_wx ) January 10, 2025
In fact, it appears that the majority of folks are enjoying our unusual spring weather function. In Piedmont Park, many people ventured out for riding. Okay, so sometimes we do know how to handle it. Or perhaps these are all transplants from the Mason-Dixon range north. Believe me, we have plenty of them, and” we full”, as we like to say, but don’t get any suggestions.  ,

The Waffle House and Piedmont Park are accessible to everyone else. I’m staying house. I chose to brave the crowds that were frantically stocking up on bread and butter yesterday as opposed to the icy roads because that’s what we do when the wind estimates also suggests winter. Though, I stock up on what actually matters: Diet Coke and tortilla chips.  ,
I’m at Kroger Rd outside of Atlanta, which is a park. And all wheat, egg, deli meat. It’s all gone. Definitely crazy considering by Sunday it’ll be ordinary again. twitter.com/JlpW1VFcRm— Adam_GaWX ( @adam_gawx ) January 9, 2025
I did go outside to check on, supply, and liquid my farm animals. As I was about to leave, I actually had the idea to “let my birds out of their ink and get a sweet picture of them walking through the snowfall for the first time in their lives.” I went to great lengths to put it on level. Well, they chose to stay in the protected area of their work rather than really step foot in it. Great pain. Yet my birds are Southeastern.

There’s an old joke that says anything like” Don’t make fun of the South when it snows. It’s unique, sort of like a northern class winning a college basketball championship”. Well, we can’t even claim that this year. ( Unless Texas wins, I guess, but I’m not sure most of us SEC fans are ready to count them just yet. ) ( Only kidding, people. Calm down )  ,
Although my dearest Georgia Bulldogs may be out of the year, Sanford Stadium still looks beautiful in the snow. It’s just to keep things nice until Kirby Smart and the kids heat it up once more next time.  ,

And at the end of the day, if we all just use our common sense, ( seriously, stay off the roads if you don’t have to get out ), we’ll make it through this rare weather. It’s better to reduce energy during the dog days of July and August than it does if we lose it for a day or so. Have you ever stayed in a Georgian home during the summertime without air conditioning? It ain’t joy. However, at least around in Georgia, we have the best yea government in the nation in charge and making an effort to keep us safe.  ,
Our teams at @GeorgiaEMAHS, @GA_DPS,  , @GADeptofTrans, DNR and more are working around the clock to maintain Georgians healthy and knowledgeable as today’s climate event continues.
Thank you for taking the time to follow the instructions to avoid driving and to make certain you’re prepared for possible power outages… twitter.com/E0RpshIH5V

In all seriousness, I hope all my brother South ( and everyone else dealing with this autumn wind ) are safe and warm now. Everyone is in my prayer, especially if you have an important job that calls for you to get out and pull on the soft roads or if you have been without electricity for an extended period of time. And if I could get all of this precipitation and send it to California, I had in a heartbeat.  ,
Keep healthy people, and let us understand what the weather’s like where you are in the responses.
