Mute Egede, the prime minister of Greenland, stated that they have no intent of becoming Americans, but that he is open to talking with the newly elected president-elect Donald Trump about the state of the mineral-rich Arctic place.
The coming President had already indicated his interest in having power of Greenland, so this statement was made.
At a press event in Copenhagen, Denmark, on Friday, Egede indicated that while he had not instantly communicated with Trump, he remained susceptible to conversations about shared objectives.
” We are ready to talk”, he said. ” Cooperation is about speech. Cooperation implies that you will work toward options.
” We don’t want to be Danes, we don’t want to be Americans. We want to get Greenlandic. The Greenlandic citizens, of course, consider their coming, Egede continued.
He made these remarks while speaking alongside Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, who has been in charge of Denmark since the 1700s. Through a vote in 2009, the region’s 57, 000 people were given the right to seek liberation from Denmark.
Trump’s involvement in Greenland, immediately expressed during his president, has resurfaced as he approaches his January 20 opening.
The president-elect believed that acquiring Greenland, related to his dreams for the Panama Canal, may develop America’s position against Russia and China. His brother Donald Trump Jr. just visited Greenland personally, receiving help from pro-MAGA locals.
Frederiksen indicated her intent to join Mr. Trump post-inauguration.
Axios claims that Swedish officials are working to address Trump’s concerns about the naval presence of China and Russia through alternative strategies like increased security or increased British military presence. Pituffik Space Base is now being maintained by the US in west Greenland.
While Egede supports democracy dreams, he emphasised that despite being receptive to debate with Mr. Trump, Greenland’s independence remains major.
” We have a desire for freedom, a desire to be the master of our own home. … This is something anyone does respect”, Egede said. Greenland is intended for the Greenlandic citizens. We do not want to be Swedish, we do not want to be American. We want to become Greenlandic”.
