US President-elect Donald Trump expressed disappointment over the continued Southern California fires, calling them “one of the worst calamities” in British history. Taking to Truth Social, Trump criticized local government for their ability to have the flames, which have claimed life, destroyed thousands of homes, and forced size emergency.
According to Trump,” the flames are also raging in LA. The inept pols have no idea how to put them out.” ” Some beautiful homes have been destroyed, and many more will soon be lost. Suicide can be found everywhere. They simply can’t put out the fires. What’s bad with them”?
Wildfires ‘ disastrous effects
According to officials cited by the New York Post, at least 16 people have died, and roughly 200, 000 people have been displaced. Over 35, 000 acres—an place two-and-a-half times the size of Manhattan—have been scorched.
The Palisades Fire only has burned 19, 978 hectares, making it the most dangerous, while the Eaton Fire has devastated 13, 690 hectares. Smaller burns, including the Kenneth and Hurst flames, have collectively destroyed over 1, 700 acres of land.
AccuWeather estimates the economic damage could exceed$ 50 billion, potentially making these fires the worst in California’s history.
Governor Newsom pushes back against propaganda
Governor Gavin Newsom of California defended false information about fires, citing position initiatives to prevent and respond to them. In a blog on X, Newsom wrote,” The TRUTH:- CA did NOT cut our firefighting resources. The size of our fire force has grown to the size of the world’s largest underwater firefighting ship. Since we took office, CA has INCREASED jungle control by tenfold. – California did NOT enable for looting”.
Newsom also created a new website to offer up-to-date information about the continuing crisis and urges people to rely on confirmed sources.
Although the Sunset Fire has apparently been contained, officials warn that additional flames could become worse as a result of dry weather and strong winds.
