Donald Trump’s inauguration day, according to Vice-President-elect JD Vance, did not promise that the Jan 6 protesters may be pardoned, and he said that those who have committed harsh acts should not be pardoned. Donald Trump made promises to enact sweeping clemency on day one of his presidency for those responsible for those protests, but this is not what he said. He continued,” Those people have suffered long and hard,” adding that there might be some exceptions, but he would examine individual cases.
More than 1, 250 people were found guilty or pleaded guilty to charges ranging from trespass to seditious conspiracy for their involvement in the Capitol rebellion. Some protesters sought to strike top-elected leaders, including Rep. Nancy Pelosi and then-Vice President Mike Pence.
” I think it’s very easy”, Vance told Bream. ” If you protested peacefully on January the 6th and you’ve had]Attorney General ] Merrick Garland’s Department of Justice treat you like a gang member, you should be pardoned. If you committed violence on that day, evidently you shouldn’t be pardoned”.
” There’s a little bit of a grey area it, but we’re pretty little committed to seeing the equal leadership of laws, and there are a lot of folks, we think, in the midst of January 6 who were prosecuted unfairly”, Vance said.
Trump has been urged by some Democratic lawmakers to grant clemency to all rioters on January 6. Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, a close Trump supporter, told the Associated Press last week that those imprisoned over the problems —regardless of their crime—should been released.
” Perhaps the ones that fought Capitol Police, caused damage to the Capitol, I think they’ve served their time, and I think they should all be pardoned and released from prison”, Greene said.
