Learners claim comments’ affected their intellectual health’, plea demands his dismissal
A song professor was fired for daring to challenge the equality policies and critical race theory of his university, and he is planning to do so in a new lawsuit.
Martin Speake, a U. K.” artist, saxophonist, intellectual and trainer” specializing in dance, first last year had responded to a demand for suggestions regarding Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance‘s “BLM/anti-racist policies and initiatives”.
In his email response, Speake ( pictured ) stated that the UK jazz scene does not exhibit systemic racial inequality and that critical race theory is “divisive and dangerous.”
He came to a conclusion with Martin Luther King Jr.’s adage,” Judging individuals by the content of their character, no their body shade,”
How’s what followed, according to the doctor:
I forwarded this message to a student who I had a rousing discussion about the subject with earlier that morning. This learner showed the message to some peers, but didn’t forwards it to anyone. However, as some students became aware of it, the message started to stifle some speculative and dissention in the student body. Then Trinity Laban [TL] stopped teaching me and made me consent for the distribution of my message to the whole jazz department.
Speake asserts that Trinity Laban” threatened disciplinary action” against him, that kids” threatened his classes,” and that the London Music Orchestra, which he served as the orchestra’s lead alto saxophone for 15 years, requested he taking a leave of absence.
According to , Fell Disc, some Trinity Laban students also claimed Speake’s internet “affected their intellectual health”.
A Change. org petition created by” Frightened Student” information he/she was “deeply affected” by Speake’s message that “perpetuated dangerous and disparaging stories about dark musicians in the music industry”.

The complaint alleges Speake had a “lack of awareness” and” created an unpleasant and distressing teaching environment”. Additionally, it demands that he be let go of his place because “his behavior and beliefs are incompatible with the values and principles” of Trinity Laban.
A counterpetition supporting Speake even appeared, and it begins in piece,” If you know Martin Speake, you will know that, despite his outspoken and occasionally eccentric ideas, Martin is not prejudiced in any way.” Additionally, no one should be held accountable for their forty-five years of service for speaking freely in private.
However, in Speake’s individual petition he notes he was arrested about 50 years ago for protesting the far-right National Front, and was an administrator of Long Tones for Peace, which seeks the “peaceful co-existence of all persons worldwide”.
Most lately,  , Slipped Disc reported that Speake’s scheduled shows were all canceled, the release of his latest record “halted”, and that rings didn’t enjoy his works.
” With a very heavy heart I had no choice but to resign from my post with]Trinity Laban ] in November 2024 as my working environment had become unbearable”, Speake said.
Speake intends to record a productive departure lawsuit against Trinity Laban, which he already sued for “discrimination and harassment.”
” Essentially ,]Trinity Laban ] forced me to resign by virtue of its conduct towards me, which, I believe, constitutes a serious breach of contract”.
