Bangkok’s government approved a draft casino law on Monday to boost tourism and the country’s struggling economy. Games are permitted in some forms of gambling, such as those that involve boxing and horse race, but those that involve gambling are still prohibited in the Southeast Asian nation.
Following the government meeting, prime minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra stated to reporters that the bill would also encourage more investments and address issues involving illegal gambling.
” It will benefit society as a whole in the future”, Paetongtarn said. ” This is part of the government’s plan to support green tourism, or man-made places, which was addressed in Parliament”.
She said the funding government, which sponsored the bill, may afterwards give more information about the programs, which are being promoted as “entertainment structures”.
The current government, which took office in September, has pledged to make the government’s financial troubles their best plan.
A game may be permitted to operate within a diverse that even houses various businesses like a hotel, convention house, store, or theme park, according to the draft law, which was made available online for public viewing. The casinos, which are open to foreigners for free, will not be accessible to those under the age of 20, but Thai citizens must pay 5,000 baht ( USD 148 ) for an entrance fee, according to the draft.
According to government spokesman Jirayu Hoangsub, the expenses will be presented to the Office of the Council State for evaluation before being discussed and voted on by members of the House of Representatives and the Senate.
” Isn’t it time for Thailand to recognize that there are gambling sites, both legal and illegal, in the country and also the adjacent locations? This initiative aims to generate income for the country’s tourism business”, he said in a statement.
Tourism is the main thrust of Thailand’s market, and the various governments have always been working to enhance it.
